Meeting Minutes
November 14, 2011
Present: Rebecca Montgomery, Diane Ross, Ethan Wagner, Nina Semmelroth, Brian Goodspeed,
Peter Lindstrom, Justin Miller
Absent: Gretel Keene, Stan Sveen
1. Minutes of the October 10th meeting were approved.
2. Miller provided background on the wind turbine ordinance examples that he previously
sent to the commission. Since most examples dealt with county ordinances and cities with
larger lots, and due to the fact that urban turbines are not predicted to be cost effective for
several years, the commission tabled the item indefinitely.
3. Goodspeed indicated that he was planning on attending the Alliance for Sustainability
Conference of Environment Commissions on November 15th in Roseville. Miller will send
to him, and copy the commission, a copy of the GreenStep Cities status report.
4. Miller and Montgomery shared the U of MN tree survey data that several professors have
been working on. The professors indicated their willingness to attend a future meeting and
make a more detailed presentation.
5. At the request of Mayor Lindstrom, a discussion on coal -based tar sealants was placed on
the agenda. Lindstrom stated that several cities have banned such sealants, and was
interested in what the commission thought. There was consensus that such an action was a
good idea, and Miller stated that he would work with the city attorney on drafting an
ordinance.
6. The commission decided to cancel the December meeting. The next meeting will be
January 9, 2012.
The meeting adjourned at 7:20 pm.
