Kelsey is the consulting planner for St Anthony and will be taking a lead role on this application/project. What Is CityLabs? CityLabs is a faculty‐driven, yearlong partnership between the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) (Augsburg College, Hamline University, Macalester College, St. Catherine University, and University of St. Thomas) and one partner city (or group of cities) in the Twin Cities metropolitan region. During the academic year, experienced faculty and staff take on projects proposed by the city partner, and integrate them into existing courses. This year‐long, in‐depth collaboration enables the partner to advance its sustainability initiatives through student‐focused academic experiences. http://citylabsatactc.org/ What is Our Role in CityLabs? 2 The 2014‐2015 CityLabs Request for Proposals (RFP) has been released and is due by February 14, 2014 and we are submitting a proposal to become the next “city partner” (partnership of St. Anthony Village – Falcon Heights – Lauderdale). How Does the Partnership Work? The “city partner” identifies our own greatest needs and priorities related to sustainability, and transforms them into specific project proposals. CityLabs addresses 10‐15 projects during the typical partnership year, matching each project with one or more courses to complete the necessary work. Project work is completed primarily by upper‐level undergraduate and graduate students, with direct oversight by faculty members, city staff leads, and CityLabs staff. The “city partner” supports the effort through dedicated staff time and a local funding contribution. Kelsey Johnson, the City of St. Anthony Village’s Planner, will be serving as the Project Coordinator for the “city partner”. What I Need From You: At this time, I am requesting assistance from each of you to help identify a list of potential projects (looking for 30‐40 ideas) that we can include in our proposal. These ideas should relate to sustainability (either environmental, financial, social or a combination of) and should be viewed as an opportunity to accomplish some projects that may be on our “to do” lists but haven’t had the time and/or resources to do it. Get innovative folks! Please send me a list of your ideas by Friday, January 31st to ensure I have enough time to pull everything together for the proposal submittal. Ideas should include a title and 2‐3 sentence explanation of the project and how it relates to sustainability.
