ITEM: 2014 Ice Cream Social – July 24, 2014

Background:
The Ice Cream Social is Thursday, July 24, 6 – 8 p.m. at Community Park.
Again this year, the Environment Commission has an opportunity to provide public education at
the ice cream social. In May, those who were present liked the idea of promoting the new
organic waste drop-off at Ramsey County compost sites. It was suggested that we seek the aid of
Master Gardeners who are supporting the organics program with expertise and outreach.
1. We have invited Master Gardeners. One to four are coming!
2. We have the compostable plastic bags and brochures to give out.
3. We will have organics collection at the event – equipment borrowed from the County.
4. We have faucet aerators to give out (from last year)
5. We can get a table.
Who on the Commission can come to the social and help?
1. Can anyone help serve as host/liaisons for the Master Gardeners?
2. We need Commissioners to help give out the free things. Wander the crowd? Or at the
table?
3. We need to think about signage. (Ramsey County has some we can use.)
ACTION REQUESTED:
Confirm if you can be there on the 24th
Talk about signage, etc.
Advise staff on further resource needs and/or Commission action.
