Absent: Nina Semmelroth, Jeff Connell, Ethan Wagner, Brian Goodspeed, Isaac Mielke, Kathryn Hartman, Council Member Beth Mercer-Taylor 1. The formal meeting was canceled because there was no quorum. Commissioners present elected to remain for a workshop discussion. Commissioner Hall noted an error in the April minutes which will be corrected before the next meeting. 2. Tennis Tour. Those present discussed the May tour of Tennis Sanitation. Commissioner Montgomery said she had reservatons about the health and safety conditions of the workers, and the others who went on the tour shared that concern. However, all attendees came away with a very positive impression of the passion the Tennis family has for recycling, especially their business model of proactively searching for local markets for materials. 3. Sustainability Plan: Although nothing formal could be done by those present, they thought starting with the UM student plan seemed to be a good idea. Commissioners need to read the student plan before the next meeting to prepare – a “homework assignment.” Staff will send it out again. 4. Ice Cream Social: Commissioner Holmes talked about the Transition Festival in the St. Anthony Park on Earth Day. She picked up some good ideas for engaging the community in sustainability efforts modeled on the groups that put that event together. They gave people an opportunity to sign up for forming small groups in different interest areas. This might be something the Commission could do at the Ice Cream Social. Deb Jones brought information from the Community Energy Resource Team (CERT) organization on a program for distributing water saving aerators to attach to faucets. Those present thought this might be a good thing to do at the Social. Deb will find out if there is money in the budget to order some of the aerators to give out. 5. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
