Meeting Notes (No Quorum)
October 14, 2013
Present: Commissioners Brian Goodspeed, Isaac Mielke, Peggy Hall, Deb Jones (Staff).
Absent: Rebecca Montgomery, Jeff Connell, Ethan Wagner, Nina Semmelroth, Patti Holmes,
Kathryn Hartman, Jeff Connell, Beth Mercer-Taylor
1. There was no quorum by 6:45, so the meeting was not officially called to order. The
September minutes will be tabled until the next meeting.
2. Guest Speakers: Ashley Pethan and Maranda Lemanick, University of Minnesota.
The visiting students gave a presentation about the upcoming Sustainability Festival
that will be held November 14 at Silverwood Park in St. Anthony. The event will run
from 5:30 to 8:00 – people can come at any time. The event is presented by the students
in the Sustainability 4004 class. This year’s project is an effort to engage the community
in sustainability.
3. Grant opportunities. Those present worked with staff on the CERT Seed Grant
application, which is due Friday. The project concept moved in the direction of
encouraging residents to install solar energy systems – Falcon Heights has just passed
an ordinance to regulate and facilitate private solar energy installations – or participate
in a community solar garden. The Mayor will be asked for a letter of support. The final
application is attached.
