Meeting Minutes
January 13, 2014
Present: Commissioners Isaac Mielke, Brian Goodspeed, Patti Holmes, Peggy Hall, Ethan
Wagner, Deb Jones (Staff).
Absent: Rebecca Montgomery, Jeff Connell, Nathan Thorvilson, Council Member Beth
Mercer-Taylor, Nina Semmelroth
1. The meeting was called to order at 6:40 by Commissioner Mielke. A quorum was
present. December minutes were approved.
2. Chair for 2014. Patti and Peggy agreed to serve as co-chairs and were approved by
consensus.
3. Directions for 2014. Last month’s topics were prioritized by the “sticky dot” method:
1) Solar energy (4 votes)
2) Food waste/organics/composting (3 votes)
3) Sustainability Group (i.e. go ahead with CERT grant idea without grant) (2)
4) Earth Day event for 2015
5) Sustainability Plan
6) Measuring sustainability effectiveness – how we tell how well we are doing
Commissioners asked staff to invite Diana McKeown of CERT Metro to the February
meeting to help us get started on the energy related topics.
4. Brainstorming for CityLabs Project. Commissioners tossed out a long list of ideas for
projects (attached). Staff will return these to Mark Casey who requested the ideas for
the CityLabs project. One of the ideas was about saving energy in public lighting.
Commissioners ask staff to report on what Falcon Heights is already doing or plans to
do on this topic.
5. Announcements – Winterfest is Sunday, January 26, at Community Park, 1 – 4 p.m.
6. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:05 p.m.
