4. Approval of Charitable Lawful Gambling Permit – L’Etoile du Nord French
Immersion PTO
- Council Member Mercer Taylor asked for more information. Staff Member Tim
Sandvik reported that the city has been in contact with the Gambling Control Board as
well as the Board of Regents at the University of Minnesota to ensure all Charitable
Lawful Gambling protocol will be followed.
5. Acceptance of KaBOOM Grant Award

G: POLICY ITEMS:
1. Resolution Proclaiming Earth Day – April 22, 2015
- Mayor Lindstrom introduced the resolution supporting the recognition of Earth
Day in Falcon Heights.
Council Member Mercer-Taylor Moved, Approved 3-0
2. Resolution Proclaiming National Police Week – May 10-16, 2015
- Mayor Lindstrom introduced the resolution supporting the recognition of
National Police Week and gave support to the officers who serve in Falcon
Heights.
Council Member Long Moved, Approved 3-0
H. INFORMATION/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Council Member Mercer Taylor:
- Environmental commission has invited a University of Minnesota forester to present to
the commission on sustainable forestry.
- Car 2 go is no longer looking to expand to Falcon Heights.
- Green Step cities have announced another level, but Falcon Heights will not be
participating in this option at this time due to the timeline. However, Green Steps have
invited Falcon Heights to stay informed about the new process.
- The Environmental Commission is also working on a new recycling contract as the
city is required to re-submit by year’s end.
Council Member Long:
- We have no officially accepted the KaBOOM! grant which is facilitating the installation
of the new playground at Curtiss Field.
Mayor Lindstrom:
- No updates this evening.
Interim City Administrator Pittman:
- Construction at Curtiss Field remains on going including grading and utility work.
Staff Member Tim Sandvik:
- Provided an update on the new Curtiss Field playground and encouraged volunteers
to learn more about how they can help with the process. Details available on the city’s
website.
I. COMMUNITY FORUM:
- Adele H of 1803 Arona Street asked several questions of the council regarding Garden
Ave street project. She supports progressing as planned with the feasibility study as
presented at previous council meetings.
- Margarethe Beech of 1803 Pascal Street stated adding a sidewalk that will take away
property from residents is not desirable. She also expressed concerns in sidewalk
maintenance, and traffic congestion but supports the feasibility study as it was
presented at previous council meetings.
- Mary Jacobson of 1754 Simpson asked the council to consider all possibilities to
improve safety for pedestrians on Garden Ave.
- Karen Schmidt of 1802 Arona Street requested the council acknowledge needs of all the
residents and does not support sidewalks.
- Jim Goodman of 1803 Arona Street stated that any time you delay a project like this,
the next time it is bid costs go up.
- Ted Simmons of 1811 Pascal stated that if the council postpones the project for a year
the assessment would reflect the raise in costs which would likely be near 10%.
J. ADJOURNMENT: 7:44 pm
