HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCWkspMin 2-4-15Falcon Heights Council Workshop Minutes February 4, 2015 6:30 p.m. Members present: Mayor Lindstrom, Council Members Long, Harris, Brown Thunder and Mercer-Taylor Members absent: City Staff present: City Administrator Bart Fischer, Public Works Director Tim Pittman, Deputy Clerk/Park & Recreation Supervisor Tim Sandvik 1) Update from City Forester Andy Hovland The City’s Forester, Andy Hovland, provided an update to the Council on the tree removal, trimming, EAB removal and replacement programs. His main focus was on the need to diversify the City’s forest. 2) Discussion on next steps for Curtiss Field Council discussed the next steps for the Curtiss Field Improvements. Council directed staff to start the process of removing the existing park building, playground and sewer tank directly underneath the playground. A future discussion will revolve around park improvement needs vs. wants. 3) Discussion on a possible Paid Parental Leave Policy The Mayor presented ideas around creating a Paid Parental Leave Policy and Council discussed it. Council directed staff to work with the City Attorney and provide a draft policy for review in the near future. 4) Discussion on possible Cable Commission Appointees Councilmember Brown Thunder declined to become the City’s Cable Commissioner. City Administrator Fischer informed the Council that resident Sue Majerus had contacted him to express her interest in being on the Commission. Sue will be providing a letter of interest to the City after which the Council can act on her appointment to the Cable Commission. 5) Discussion on City Administrator Replacement Process The Council discussed how to proceed with replacing the City Administrator who will likely be submitting his resignation on February 11, 2015, to pursue another opportunity. A job profile, job description and job posting will be posted early the week of February 9, 2015. The workshop concluded at 8:41 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Bart Fischer City Administrator
