1. Meeting called to order 6:30 PM
2. Approval of Minutes July 9th meeting minutes
Minutes were unanimously approved. Mielke/Keene
3. Welcome New Commissioners- Christina Erickson and Gordon Strom
4. Summer Camp Update Mid-summer survey results were good, no negative comments were received. The amount of surveys completed was pretty low. The end of the summer
surveys will go out next week hopefully with a better turn out. August camps
are going well. Again, Lil Explorer camp had fabulous numbers. Two new
programs: Harry Potter Camp and Sports Sampler have great numbers as well
and will run.
Lacrosse sports equipment for Lacrosse Camp went missing. Tesser looked
all over but the Community Park lockers were in really bad shape so the
equipment could have been easily stolen. New locks are being replaced.
Tesser had to purchase all new lacrosse equipment at Sports Authority which totaled $220.00.
Adventure Camp did not get the numbers needed again this year to run. This
camp will have to either be replaced or revamped. Next year, Tesser plans to
offer basketball or soccer camp. The Parks and Recreation Garden plot grew a lot of vegetables even after
Cooking Naturally class was over. All unused vegetables were given to the
Adopt a Crop program, the donated vegetables weighed in at 17lbs.
5. Ice Cream Social Recap Overall, it was another great turn out for the Ice Cream Social with an
estimated 300-400 people. During the afternoon it looked like rain would
come in but it didn’t and although it was cloudy there were hints of sun
throughout the event. Revenue received was $1,100. That was around the same amount as in 2011 with approx 500-600 people in attendance. The reason for the greater amount of revenue was the extra bouncy slide. Kids
enjoyed the bouncy caste and slide. The Bouncy castle vendor was fifteen
minutes late, Tesser did complain to the owner of the company. Ultimate
Frisbee at the end of the event was well attended. A thank you letter went out to the Lions for their generous help dishing out ice cream and putting up the two tents.
6. Fall Programming
Flyers will be distributed to local schools instead of fall programming brochure. There will be Yoga in the Park one this fall. Fall soccer and tennis registrations are steadily growing.
7. Fall Events Planning 5k Family Fun Run/Walk 9/29/2012 Currently, Tesser is advertising the event, early bird registration ends on
August 29th the fee will go from $15 to $25 individually. This changed from
last year because there were so little pre-registrations which made it difficult to
order tshirts and estimate food/beverages. Tesser still needs to find donations, winner prizes, volunteers (talked to CERT coordinator Kris Grangaard to help).
8. Public Works Report
Update
• Sign placement for state fair (280 signs)
• Tree trimming/mowing/streetscape safety/visibility
• Street sign replacement
• Sidewalk paneling
• TIES drainage/holding tanks for rainwater and underground storage
• LED decorative light replacement on Larpenteur and city hall
parking lot. $4,000 to replace all lights, should last 15-20 years with 1/3 off power used.
