3. CERTs Presentation
Mark Hove, a Falcon Heights resident and CERT, presented on some
introductory information about CERTs. CERT, Citizens Emergency Response
Team, started in 2003. It’s intentions are to equip citizens for emergencies and if
willing, to utilize that training to help neighbors. CERTs work with the Fire and
Police Departments to help support the community when they are short on staff
during emergencies. They assist in what ways they can until a professional can
take over. In regards to numbers, they try to keep the amount of trained CERTs
equally spread out in different quadrants. Ideally, they would have one CERT
per block.
4. CEC Brochure Review
Will review more at the next meeting.
5. Spring Event Planning
Event details: Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 11am-2pm at Curtiss Field
Potluck- dishes to share
City will provide beverages, cookies, popcorn/popcorn maker
Contact Lions about tents- look into tent with flaps for movie
Check with P&R about which movie is licensed and check with them about
kids activities to host
Have a raffle for a pair of Twins tickets. On the raffle card, include a checkbox
to let us know if they are interested in information about CERTs, Liaisons, etc.
Obtain trash bins from Ramsey County
Commissioner will look into having the Curtiss Field time lapse playing at
the event, and asking if a rep from CRWS would be interested in being
available/present
Look into contacting a community member about translating the flyer/news
about the event. Consider contracting Sherman about the demographics of
residents living in their apartment complexes. The manager at 1550 and 1530
is interim.
Include “weather permitting, check website for updates” on flyer
Commission will do outreach and designate volunteers to reach out to different
apartments. Staff/Commissioner will draft an email for outreach to apartment
managers. Staff will create a flyer for the event to be distributed by mail, e-news,
website, Facebook, and Twitter. Staff will send information to Kris for CERTs
and Neighborhood Liaisons. The next Commission meeting may focus on
outreach to Neighborhood Liaisons through phone calls.
Goal of Event: Focus on bridging the gap between residents in apartments and
other residents, and between quadrants/different neighborhoods
