Environmental Commission Minutes
October 12th, 2015
PRESENT: Commissioners Hartman, Olson, Holmes,Miazga, Staff Liaison Moretto, Council
Liaison Mercer-Taylor
The meeting was called to order at 6:36 p.m. by Chair Holmes.
The minutes of the September 14th, 2015 meeting of the Environmental Commission were
approved with amendment.
Presentation – Sustainable Communities Class
Students from the University of Minnesota presented their class project ideas related to
sustainability in Falcon Heights and surrounding communities. These projects included housing
issues, bike infrastructure and planning.
The group also presented information about the Sustainability Fair in St. Anthony near
Silverwood Park. The students work will be presented at the Fair.
Discussion – Falcon Heights Resiliency Project
Abby Finis will be present to City Council the results of the resiliency project that was done this
summer. The Commission was presented with the presentation slides and a brief overview of the
project.
Topic – Tech Dump
The Tech Dump hosted by St. Anthony and Falcon Heights was to take place the following
weekend. Commissioners questioned the usefulness of this kind of event. Staff informed the
Commission that this is free to the city and that there was demand last year.
Open Topics – Brainstorming ideas for the Fall
The Commission is interested in increasing the availability of information about environmental
topics throughout Falcon Heights in a wider format.
Community Forum:
No community forum was held.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
