City of Falcon Heights Environmental Commission Minutes November 9th, 2015 PRESENT: Commissioners Hartman, Hall, Holmes, Montgomery, Miazga, Olson, Wassenberg, Staff Liaison Moretto, Council Liaison Mercer-Taylor The meeting was called to order at 6:36 p.m. by Chair Holmes. The minutes of the October 12th, 2015 meeting of the Environmental Commission were approved with amendment. Discussion – End of Year Business We should start the Forest Service Climate Change Adaption Process. Review urban forest issues that were presented by Andy Hovland. Review and highlight recycling RFP and final outcomes. Discussion – Standing Rules What are some examples of current standing rules for other commissions? The environmental commission should retain its open and participatory feel. We should assign roles for the commission: vice chair, secretary, etc. Community Forum: No community forum was held. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Paul Moretto – Staff Liaison City of Falcon Heights Environmental Commission Minutes December 14th, 2015 PRESENT: Commissioners Hartman, Hall, Holmes, Montgomery, Miazga, Olson, Wassenberg, Staff Liaison Moretto, Council Liaison Mercer-Taylor The meeting was called to order at 6:36 p.m. by Chair Holmes. The minutes of the November 9th, 2015 meeting of the Environmental Commission were tabled. Discussion – Last Meeting for Council Liaison Mercer-Taylor Council Liaison Mercer-Taylor discussed her trip, in conjunction with the UMN, to Paris, France where a Climate Conference took place. An agreement was signed to lower carbon emissions. This was an exciting event. Everyone thanked and congratulated the Council Liaison for her service and for all her future endeavors. Discussion – Solar Gardens - Holmes Attached were three articles related to solar gardens. Chair Holmes discussed an opportunity to collaborate with CERT to create an info session to inform residents about solar gardens. This would be a good first start. The Grove tried developing a solar garden but was determined to be too small. Commission moved to look into hosting an information session regarding community solar gardens and possibly invite Roseville and Lauderdale. Presentation – Dathan Lythgoe of Midwest Renew His team will be holding 45 min presentations regarding single family solar energy. He would like to host an event for Falcon Heights and would like advertisement and a space. The Commission suggested teaming up with Roseville. It was agreed that Falcon Heights would reach out to Roseville to collaborate on a meeting and that Falcon Heights would advertise. Community Forum: No community forum was held.
