Meeting Minutes
Present: Chair Miazga, Secretary Olson, Staff Liaison Moretto, and Commissioners:
McCleery, Hall, and Meah.
1) Approval of Minutes
The Minutes from the June 2017 meeting of the Environmental Commission were
approved.
2) News and Announcements
Commissioner Hall will serve as Vice Chair
Pollinator habitats have been popping up in front yards; some with signs.
Mayor Lindstrom has pledge his support for the Paris Agreement on Climate
Change. He is part of a group of “Climate Mayors.”
Step 4 of Green Step Cities has been received.
City Liaison Moretto is meeting with Met Council and SOlsmart on July 11th
to review solar ordinances.
Mayor Lindstrom is being interviewed for the City’s efforts on community
solar gardens, which has won awards.
Curbside is not a licensed hauler for the city. They have been noticed
soliciting services within the City.
There will be an August recess of the Commission
July 20th Ice Cream Social Event. Environment Commission will be present.
3) Update- Bee Ordinance
Bee ordinance will hopefully be on July’s Council Workshop agenda. This is
regarding policies relating to bee-friendly practices, not private hives.
4) Update- Vacant Buildings
Chair Miazga presented the Environmental Commission’s position on vacant
properties at the most recent Planning Commission Meeting. In his words, a lot of
discussion was generated at the meeting, but more about specific properties than
general policy debate. Liaison Moretto will be meeting with the Planning
Commission Chair to discuss next steps. There has been some difficulty in defining
‘vacancy.’ The Environmental Commission will be apprised of any progress.

Meeting Minutes
Present: Chair Miazga, Vice Chair Hall, Secretary Olson, Mayor Lindstrom, and
Commissioners: McCleery, Wassenberg, and Meah.
1) Approval of Minutes- Tabled
2) News and Announcements
Environment Commissioners Miazga and Hall were present at the July 20th
Ice Cream Social Event. They handed out recycling packets and answered
questions.
Chair Miazga will attend the next Planning Commission meeting to be a part
of vacant property and noxious weed discussions.
Mailer was sent out to residents regarding a free hazardous waste collection
event.
3) CERTs Watts and Drops Initiative- Alexis Troschinetz
Alexis Troschinetz from CERTs (Clean Energy Resource Team) talked about the
Watts and Drops initiative, which devises programs to help encourage action on
energy and water savings. CERTs helps Cities work with vendors to get bulk deals
on products such as: LED bulbs, smart power strips, faucet aerators, and more.
These items are meant to be ‘plug and play’ so that that it is easy to encourage action.
The Commission moved to create a working group to determine how the City can
take advantage of the opportunities Alexis presented. It was recommended to keep
this topic on future agendas.
4) Roseville/Falcon Heights Utility Bill Clinic
There will be a utility bill clinic on October 30ths from 2pm to 7pm at the Senior
Center in Roseville, hosted by the Citizen Utility Board (CUB). They will help
explain bills and renewable energy through one-on-one counseling.
5) Status of Pollinator Resolution
The status of the resolution is unknown.
6) LogoPEP partner cities status-Update
No updates.
7) Resilient Cities
The Mayor sent out an invitation to an event this coming Saturday from 10am to
12pm. Commissioners should check their email.
8) Solar Ordinances-Update
Staff Liaison Moretto did meet in July with Met Council and Solsmart. The
Commission recommended updates at the next meeting.
