Falcon Heights Environment Commission
July 10th, 2017

Meeting Minutes
Present: Chair Miazga, Secretary Olson, Staff Liaison Moretto, and Commissioners:
McCleery, Hall, and Meah.
1) Approval of Minutes
The Minutes from the June 2017 meeting of the Environmental Commission were
approved.
2) News and Announcements
Commissioner Hall will serve as Vice Chair
Pollinator habitats have been popping up in front yards; some with signs.
Mayor Lindstrom has pledge his support for the Paris Agreement on Climate
Change. He is part of a group of “Climate Mayors.”
Step 4 of Green Step Cities has been received.
City Liaison Moretto is meeting with Met Council and SOlsmart on July 11th
to review solar ordinances.
Mayor Lindstrom is being interviewed for the City’s efforts on community
solar gardens, which has won awards.
Curbside is not a licensed hauler for the city. They have been noticed
soliciting services within the City.
There will be an August recess of the Commission
July 20th Ice Cream Social Event. Environment Commission will be present.
3) Update- Bee Ordinance
Bee ordinance will hopefully be on July’s Council Workshop agenda. This is
regarding policies relating to bee-friendly practices, not private hives.
4) Update- Vacant Buildings
Chair Miazga presented the Environmental Commission’s position on vacant
properties at the most recent Planning Commission Meeting. In his words, a lot of
discussion was generated at the meeting, but more about specific properties than
general policy debate. Liaison Moretto will be meeting with the Planning
Commission Chair to discuss next steps. There has been some difficulty in defining
‘vacancy.’ The Environmental Commission will be apprised of any progress.

Next Meeting: Monday, September 11th, 2017
