Council Minutes
June 26, 2002
Mayor Gehrz called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
PRESENT: Gehrz, Kuettel, Lamb, Lindstrom, Talbot. Also present was Heather Worthington,
City Administrator and Pat Phillips, Deputy Clerk.
COMMUNITY FORUM: There was no one present to speak before the council.
MINUTES: The minutes of June 12, 2002 were approved as written.
PRESENTATION:
Mayor Gehrz presented Certificates of Achievement to Kimberly and KatieJo Kuhens in honor of their receiving the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards. Both KatieJo and Kimberly stepped
forward to acknowledge receipt and to say a few words about what they had to accomplish in order to be nominated for these highest awards.
CONSENT
General disbursements and payroll.
Licenses
Appointment of firefighter, Patrick Gaffney.
Acceptance of donation of $500 from Falcon Heights/Lauderdale Lions Club to “Friends of the Park” fund.
POLICY
2001 Street Repairs and Alley Improvements Project – Final Retainage Payment to Hardrives, Inc.
Administrator Worthington said the city’s engineers recommended release of $2,500 retainage payment to the contractor hired to do the 2001 Street and Alley Improvements. One final punch
list item, a sidewalk replacement in the Northome area, had been completed so release of the retainage amount was recommended. Councilmember Lindstrom made a motion to approve the
release of $2,500 to Hardrives, Inc. The motion passed unanimously.
REPORTS FROM COUNCILMEMBERS
Councilmember Lindstrom said he had attended a meeting on Monday, June 24, with regard to
the Curtiss Field improvement proposals. Another meeting will be held on July 22nd.

Lindstrom also said the Planning Commission met to discuss possible changes in the city’s code on lot coverage. It currently is at 75% and the commission is considering proposing a
35 to 45% lot coverage to maximize green space.
Councilmember Talbot reported briefly on the League of Minnesota Cities conference he attended in Rochester. Talbot also talked about the Curtiss Field meeting and the drainage problem
and said residents who attended the meeting were concerned about the possibility of a change in traffic patterns and how it would affect their neighborhood.
Councilmember Kuettel said that at the League of Minnesota Cities conference the city received the 2002 Homeland Security Initiatives Award.
Mayor Gehrz also mentioned several committees and workshops she attended at the LMC conference.
INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Administrator Worthington reminded everyone of three upcoming meetings/events. One is on July 18 at City Hall dealing with the SE Corner Re-development plans. A traffic engineer will
also be present at this meeting to answer questions about traffic. The second reminder is the Park Commisison’s second meeting regarding the Curtiss Field improvements which will be
held on July 22 at City Hall. The third event is the Ice Cream Social which will be on July 25, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. Worthington said “Booker the Dog”, a Ramsey County Library mascot
will also be in attendance this year.
ADJOURN
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. to a short workshop.
