Budget Workshop

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Sue Gehrz at 8 AM.
The first discussion revolved around the budget constraints facing the city with
levy limits and anticipated revenue increase of about $15,000. Police costs
would need to be at least $15,000. After discussing how to reduce other costs to
pay for police and technological costs, the council directed the administrator to
notify the fire marshal that this position would not be included in the 2000 budget.
They also directed the administrator to contract for outplacement services and
allow the fire marshal time away from the office to pursue other job opportunities
as soon as possible.
Discussion followed with the addition of action items related to planning, land use
and other items. The council directed the administrator to request a proposal for
a financial analysis of the southeast corner of Snelling and Larpenteur so the
redevelopment opportunities and constraints would be understood.
Administrator Hoyt was directed to draft the 2000 goals based upon the
discussion.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 AM.
