HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCMin_90Aug8t~ MINUTES REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING AUGUST 8, 1990 Ciernia convened the meeting at 7:10 P.M. PRESENT: Ciernia, Gehrz, Wallin and Jacobs. Also present was J. Wiessner. ABSENT: Baldwin. Also absent was S. Chenoweth. MINUTES OF JULY 25, 1990 APPROVED The Minutes of July 25, 1990 were approved by unanimous consent. CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS APPROVED Council approved the following Consent Agenda Items by unanimous consent: 1. Disbursements: a. General Disbursements through 8/8/90, $139,177.42. b. Payroll, 7/16/90-7/31/90, $11,338.74 2. United Way Campaign Incentive. CITY PARTICIPATION IN SAFE DRIVING MESSAGES WMIN radio station requested that the City contribute $200 as a sponsor of safe driving messages during the State Fair. After some discussion, the council decided to decline the request as the City can provide text to be aired as public service announcements at no cost. ADDENDUM: REQUEST TO LOWER SPEED LIMIT TO ].5 m.p.h. AND POST "WATCH FOR CHILDREN" SIGNS ON AUTUMN AND PRIOR STREETS Barbara Smith of 1964 Autumn Street presented a written request to have a "Watch for Children" sign posted on Autumn and Prior Streets. Ms. Smith was also present at this meeting to give counci]_ her reasoning for this request. t~ Page 2 Minutes August 8, 1990 Paul Ciernia stated that speed ]_imits can only be set by the State. A letter received by the Roseville police said they do not recommend this type of sign as they feel it only accomplishes a false security for children and parents. Ms. Smith asked if it would be appropriate to send flyers to the neighborhood residents addressing this concern. Counci]_ felt that would be an excellent idea and offered assistance from staff, if needed. Council also requested that Terry Maurer, City Engineer, provide them with additional information and requested the matter be placed on the August 22nd Council Agenda.
