Other Business 9. Adjourn MEETING MINUTES Monday, June 6 2016 6:30 p.m. City Hall, 2077 W. Larpenteur Ave. City of Falcon Heights Parks & Recreation Commission 1. Call to Order Meeting called to order at 6:30pm. Approval of April 4, 2016 meeting minutes The meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. 3. Updates from Council Retreat – Council Member Gustafson Retreat 6/4 9am – 1pm Need to develop a better financial plan for the city with more of a long-term view. Pressure to keep taxes down has led to current situation. Relative for Parks Comm Can’t bond for a building for Curtis Would come from operating expenses or levi Comprehensive city plan (required by Metropolitan council), will start and is required by 2018. Include park and rec items within this plan. Possibly hold a meeting at Curtis Park. Resiliency group is holding a meeting there next week. Three bike repair stations coming via a grant: Community Park Falcon Heights elementary City Hall 4. Programming Updates – Tim Sandvik Programs start in a week. Training completed last weekend Approx. 12 on staff plus junior leaders. Currently have 150 registered , this number is down from prior years. CTC backed out of their programs. Looking to fill a gap for special instructors (art, yoga). Blackhawks is renting space in Community Park, their numbers don’t count in program counts. 5. Ice Cream Social Planning continues, movie (Mighty Ducks) combined with social. July 26th, starting at 6pm. Working with groups to see if they want to participate Ramsey County Master Gardeners Possibly cub scouts, pine wood derby track? Ron to ask Scout Leader. 6. Curtis Field updates Community engagement planning an event at Curtis possibly in late Sept. and could be an opportunity to combine with Parks and Rec Commission. Concrete order for the sidewalks scheduled for completion on Wednesday. Tim is meeting with Ramsey County Master Gardeners on ideas or help to beautify the parks. 7. Other Items Meeting adjourned at 7:32pm. If commissioners have ideas, reach out to Tim. July 4th is our next meeting so July meeting should be ?? Skip July and meet in August. Walt, impressed with boulevard trees on Iowa. Is there a mechanism to trim the suckers at the base of the tree. There is an arborist contracted with the city, Walt to contact him to discuss.
