Adjourn MEETING MINUTES Monday, September 11, 2017 6:30 p.m. City Hall, 2077 W. Larpenteur Ave. City of Falcon Heights Parks & Recreation Commission 1. Call to Order Meeting called to order at 6:30pm. Approval of April 10, 2017 meeting minutes The meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. 3. Introduced new member We welcomed, Olivia Demerath Roseville High School student, interested in government. Welcome Olivia. 4. Updates on Summer 2017 – Tim Sandvik  Parks Programming o Yearly $22k transfer from general fund to parks commission. o Yearly goal is to remain revenue neutral  Rentals – Facility/Field o Increased usage over the last 2 years. o Building rental feedback, more positive this year, only 1 deposit was kept. There was much less cleanup and maintenance required then in 2016.  Events o Spring Together – canceled due to weather o Ice Cream Social –a success  Ice cream options were limited however there were no charges for ice cream or the games. o Annual 5K is this coming weekend. o No Winterfest this year due to date conflict with the Super Bowl.  Infrastructure updates o 24 tons of grael were put on the path in the Community Park. o New sidewalk at Curtis Field  Favorable feedback  Status of planting trees in Curtis Park, awaiting potential other changes to Curtis.  Upcoming Opportunities o Possibly smaller activities (Rec on the Go), activities across parks.  To Increase park usage  To Increase inclusion 5. Task Force Recommendations – Parks and Recreation Commission Opportunities  Recommendations were vague.  CDC will be meeting to set priorities.  Inclusion of kids with disabilities on park equipment.  Multi-use of park.  Partnership with school district (Falcon Heights Elementary).  Address the sources of exclusion.  Gear programming toward minority population.  Possible a survey to gage interest. 6. Grant Submission – Interpretive Signage  Interpretative signage going into Curtis field  Working on panel design before the December meeting.  Tim is looking for input on the panel layout. 7. Grand Submission – Piano in the Park  Would be located at Community Park  Planning to have an artist at the December mtg to collect ideas for the piano design. 8. Additional Updates , Meeting Schedule Upcoming Commission term renewals:  Ben and Shawn in October and Gordon in December.  Need Shawn and Ben feedback for Commission renewal. 9. Other Business  Increased expenditures due to increased police costs. 10. Adjourn 7:59 motion made and seconded.
