Monday, April 8, 2019 6:30 p.m. Meeting Minutes
A. CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Wassenberg called the meeting to order at 6:29 p.m.
B. ROLL CALL:
Present: Jim Wassenberg, Martin McCleery, Patrick Mathwig, Ned Mohan and Jordyn Bucholtz
Absent: Nick Olson and Farook Meah,
Also present: Justin Markon, Staff Liaison and Mark Miazga, City Council Liaison
C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
March 11, 2019 meeting minutes were approved.
D. AGENDA
1. Update on projects since March meeting
Commissioners discussed partnering with Citizens for Sustainability for the Sustainability
Fair. Commissioners discussed having a table for the FHEC at Community Park on July 18 5-7pm at the Ice Cream Social as an outreach effort. Commissioners discussed having an
electric vehicle at this event.
2. Upcoming meetings with other Commissions
Jim Wassenberg discussed attending Metro Environment Commission Conference Saturday,
April 13 in Minneapolis and invited other commissioners to attend. They will attend breakout sessions and bring information back to the group. Jim Wassenberg said that he will be meeting with Shoreview May 6, St Anthony Environment Commission April 16 and
potentially New Brighton on May 1.
3. Consider application for AARP grant
The Commissioners discussed applying for the grant to install rapid flashers as a way to
improve accessibility at dangerous intersections. A few locations were discussed and Larpenteur Ave and Fry St and Larpenteur Avenue and Pascal Street were decided upon. The
commission will reach out to the county to determine if this project is feasible and necessary.
4. Environment/sustainability column in e-newsletter
Commissioners discussed compiling a list of environmental news and fact items to be
included in the “Environment Corner” of the weekly newsletter. Some topics of interest include: solar-related news and information including the MN Solar Suitability App,
community events, etc.
E. NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
The single hauler proposal only got one vote at the recent City Council retreat.
F. ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
