3. Event Planning and Follow-up
Ice Cream Social update: Commissioners chatted with a lot of people about
opportunities to be involved. Made a connection with the Family Student
Housing Board Member at UMN that had interest in partnerships. Walking
around and mingling was a great opportunity. The tents were too far from the
building where people tend to hang out. People missed the dunk tank.
Event Outreach updates:
Follow up with landlords and apartment managers earlier in the event planning
process. Consider quarterly check-ins with apartment managers. We have to be
mindful that there is frequent turn over.
To gain more interest in HR Day, personally reach out to those who have
expressed interest (i.e. City involvement list, Lions, PTA, Family Student
Housing Board Member, neighborhood liaisons, block party captains, apartment
managers, UMN School of Social Work, United Church of Christ, Falcon Heights
Task Force, Roseville High School, City of Lauderdale/Roseville, Roseville
Library, Etc.). Staff will contact Roseville Library and UMN, and Stacey will
contact the City of Roseville and ask about their Human Rights
Commission/Events. Research nearby Human Rights Day events (i.e. Roseville
Library and UMN)
Human Right Day Guest Speaker: consider Ellen Kennedy or someone from the
Human Trafficking Task Force of MN
Follow up on who may have a list of the people who attended Task Force
Community Conversation emails/phone numbers/ etc.
4. Block Parties Follow-up
18 block parties registered, and 12 block parties on Night to Unite SAPD attended.
5. Task Force Inclusion Recommendations
Considering more research on the Science Museum, connecting with Racial Equity
Network MN, Voices for Racial Equity, etc. The Commission would like to consider
how to tie inclusion into the Human Rights Day event and how to keep the
conversation going. How can we continue to report on the process?
Review guidelines for Commission meetings and determine how they be published.
Additionally, what can the Commission take ownership on in the
recommendations?
