DISCUSSION 1.Spring Together •Flyer #1 received majority of the vote and Staff will edit the address and create an event on Facebook. •Will discuss activities in April’s meeting. •CEC Table/Informational – Staff will get the table runner and cloth. CEC voted for 36” runner and moved the “(CEC)” to a new line and center. Staff will provide a picture in the next meeting. 2.Neighborhood Liaisons •Dena sent emails to liaisons and staff mailed letters to liaisons that do not have anemail address. •Twelve responded yes, 18 answered no and 53 did not respond. Staff will followup next week. •Rick met Kris and was told that there are liaisons at 1550 Larpenteur and CTC.The Fry apartment does not have any liaisons. •Apartment residents move in and out of the city, and it will be hard to track itdown. Should we ask the caretaker/manager on site to be a liaison? •How to recruit more? Put it on E-news with a small summary and bullet points. •The city needs to have a quarterly event for liaisons. •Create a neighborhood event tab on city website - this will help create community connection and conversations. •Rick, Julie, and Katie will work together on neighborhood liaison introduction for E-news. 3.Neighborhood Watch Program •Neighborhood Liaison/Block Captain/Watch all focus on community building. •CEC would like the roles to be separate and have clear goals. •The budget impact will be $75 per signs, and total estimate amount will be$2,500. Falcon Heights will have 32 signs. •CEC moved to support the neighborhood watch program as an aspect ofengagement and not just the signs. 4.Youth Programs •City Administrator wants youth programs to revolve around “Cultivating a Caring Community” and would like CEC to brainstorm ideas. •Examples: mural, Rec on the Go, and summer programs. The city would like tobring reading time at City Hall green space, kickball tournament at ICS, sports equipment shed at Curtiss field •CEC want to see more winter events, door knocking with youth, and art programs. E. INFORMATION/ANNOUNCEMENTS •On Friday, the city sent out the weekly newsletter with March 27’s agenda packet. Councilmember Gustafson will be appointed as mayor. F. Item Neighborhood Block Parties and Liaisons Description Neighborhood Block Parties - Night to Unite is on Tuesday, August 6. Registration is open on city website and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office. The deadline for Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is Friday, July 19. Neighborhood Liaisons - As of May 14, 2019, the city has 16 active neighborhood liaisons, 41 who confirmed no and 31 have not responded. The 16 active neighborhood liaisons live on Albert (1), Arona (2), California (1), Folwell (1), Garden (1), Hollywood (1), Idaho (3), Iowa (1), Larpenteur (1), Moore (1), Northrop (1), and Simpson (1). On Tuesday August 6, 2019, from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, neighbors in Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Little Canada, North Oaks, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights, and White Bear Township will be joining communities across Minnesota to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in pursuit of more safe communities. We want to connect residents of Falcon Heights’ neighborhoods with each other with the city through the Community Engagement Commission (CEC). Liaisons do this by building relationships to more effectively cultivate a caring, supportive, and inclusive community. What do Liaisons Do? - Welcome new residents. - Promote neighborhood gatherings, block parties, or other activities that work for your neighborhood. - Be a connector and communicator between the neighborhood and City Council through the CEC. Item Commissioners Choice of Events From The Proposed List Description Events are a way to bring the community together. There are a couple of events held each year for the City of Falcon Heights. - Spring Together - Ice Cream Social/Hot Dog with a Deputy - Fire Department Open House/Chili cook-off - Night to Unite - Cultivating a Caring Community speaker events - City Wide Garage Sale - Winterfest (last held in 2015) - 5K Run (last held in 2014) Hosting different events or more events can spark interest for community member involvement. In the May meeting, Staff provided a document of potienial city events for commissioners to review. It was suggested that every commissioner will review the list before the June meeting and choose 1-3 events that they think we should consider. The commissioners would come prepared to present their pick with their reasons for the choice to the meeting.
