July 6, 2019 – Inclusion Speakers #2 Valerie Castile, John Thompson, Hawa Samatar, City Hall 6:30pm OPEN MEETING LAW • Prior notice of meetings must be given, public can access discussions, attend and read the minutes • Four is a quorum for the CEC • Amanda sends out notices because she IS the public record • We should not "Reply All" • No "serial meetings" allowed wherein one person talks to a second who talks to a third, even though the group is not meeting as a group. • Fact finding is OK F. The informational table and bounce house was very popular. • More food this year and yard games for people to play. • Continue to keep it in June Suggestions/Improvements: - Pet dishes - First aid kit - Apple juice: it was popular for one jug - Swag bag - Ice and coolers for water bottles: Next year connect with McDonalds about ice. - Cut down on plastic bottles: Connect with Environment Commission about compostable cups Next Year: - Review 2018 and 2019 the suggestion list 8.Neighborhood Block Parties and Liaisons Neighborhood Block Parties: - Promote it on social media and weekly newsletters. - Create a map of all the block parties for residents so they know if their block is hosting one. Also, add where the liaisons are located. - Contact last year’s list if they want to host again. - Connect with hosts and if they will like to be a liaison for their block Neighborhood Liaisons: - Larpenteur has 2 liaisons and not 1. - Dena will bring in a map and color code the 16 active liaisons - Continue to promote the program - Create a yearly event for liaisons to meet with each other. Staff will talk to City Administrator Thongvanh about the event. - Neighborhood Liaison Packet: Take out the “draft” watermark. Staff will continue to change the names and the revision date. 9.Commissioners Choice of Events From The Proposed List •Commissioners presented their top 3 choice. Below are the ones that were voted. - Mural at Community Park (5) – If the building is being rebuild then this will be a great idea. - Peace Pole (1) - Curtiss field ice skating event (with vendors) ex. Holidazzle (5) - Fall Harvest (8) - Coffee with City Council and Mayor (4) - Painting at Curtiss Field (1) - Food Truck (8) - Student group project – create a sample policy and present it at CC meetings (middle/high school) (3) - Food festival of nations (1) – Can connect this with Spring Together - Elementary students pen pal with seniors (meet and activities during school year) (6) – combined this with Lunch with students at schools E. Staff connected with City Administrator regarding liaison event and will provide updates.
