ROLL CALL: Reider _X__ May_AB__ Kohn_X__ Johnson_X__ Larrabee_X__King_X__ Stegman _X___ COUNCIL LIAISON Gustafson_X__ STAFF PRESENT: Lor_X__ C.Approval of Minutes: •July 22 Meeting Minutes Kohn 1st Motion Larrabee 2nd Motion Approved 6-0 D.DISCUSSION 1.The Proposed Event List Follow Up •Take out Mural at Community Park because it is a long-term goal. •Voting: o Curtiss Field Ice Skating (2) o Fall Harvest and Food Truck (5) o Coffee with City Council and Mayor (3) o Student project – create a sample ordinance/policy (2) o Elementary Pen pals (3) 2.Neighborhood Liaisons Event •Subgroup will create the questions and agenda. •Provide a resource table and liaison nametags with address. •Create a RSVP spreadsheet and send another email out to the liaisons. •City will provide light snacks and beverages. 3.Human Rights Day Topics •This year’s theme will focus on hate speech. •City staff will connect with ACLU, ADL, SPLC, and U of M sociology department. 4.Propose Resolution •Recommended approval with the following strikeout. o Changes: (iii) strongly condemns all of President Donald Trump’s racist and xenophobic comments. Kohn 1st Motion Johnson 2nd Motion Approval 6-0 E.INFORMATION/ANNOUNCEMENTS •Open dates to meet: November 7, 12 and 14 o CEC will meet on November 12 •Story Time – September: o Move to next year. •Ongoing Communication Updates o Bi-annual newsletters – New newsletter and will be in the mail before Minnesota State Fair. o Website – The City of Falcon Heights website is in need of an upgrade. The current website is not ADA Compliant, outdated, difficult to edit, does not address the needs of residents and is incompatible with several technologies. City staff will present a presentation at Wednesday, September 4, City Council Workshop. F.ADJOURNMENT: 8:07 PM ITEM FOR DISCUSSION Families, Fields and Fair __________________________ The City That Soars! Item Propose Resolution Update Description At the Wednesday, August 7th, 2019, City Council Workshop the Council made a decision for the Community Engagement Commission to review the proposed resolution. The propose resolution condemns racist and xenophobic language. At the August 17th , 2019 Community Engagement Commission Meeting, the Commission recommended approval with the following strikeout. Changes: (iii) strongly condemns all of President Donald Trump’s racist and xenophobic comments. At the Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, City Council Workshop the Council discussed the Proposed Resolution and it was a 1-3 vote. City Council did not moved to approve the resolution. City staff and Mayor Gustafson will provide updates.
