Fire Inspections for High Density Residential and Businesses The purpose is to maintain the safety and lessen the threat of hostile fires to business and ensure that our citizens and visitors to our city are protected from fire-related emergencies. Currently, the Fire Marshal inspects Lauderdale’s commercial business and multi-family rental dwellings common areas. In Falcon Heights, the Fire Marshal inspects rental houses with 1, 2, or 3 dwelling units. There are approximately 30 larger rental buildings in the city, ranging from 5 to 119 units, with a current total of 704 rental units. Staffs are proposing a program that would require fire inspections of the common areas of the buildings. If City Council approves the program, a complementary fire inspection begin in early fall so that businesses and large rentals have an idea of their existing hazards before the program officially begins. 2. 2019 City Council Priorities a. Cultivating a Caring Community Efforts – 2019 Budget Item City Council and City Administrator Thongvanh discussed 2018 and 2019 events where it focuses on “Cultivating a Caring Community.” The 2019 budget is $30,000, and the council will have to determine the use of it. b. Community Park Building City Council and City Administrator Thongvanh discussed 2018 and 2019 events where it focuses on “Cultivating a Caring Community.” The 2019 budget is $30,000 ,and the council will have to determine the use of it. 3. 2020 Budgeting Update There are two funding sources to help improve Community Park building and amenities Source A, is the State Bonding Money that City Administrator Thongvanh and Council Member Miazga have been working in the last few months. City Administrator Thongvanh will submit the application no later than Friday, June 14, 2019. Source B, is 1) to have a Tax Abatement for Public Improvements and Facilities – similar to the issue of street improvement bonds, 2) Referendum –The resolution and ballot question must be sent to the County within 74 days of the election.
