E. DISCUSSION
1. Human Rights Day Update
• Five people RSVP to the event
• Facebook shows about 30 people who are interested in the event and have
seen individuals sharing the event
• Continue to promote the event
2. 2020 Goals
• Spring Together date is on Saturday, June 6 and will collaborate with Parks
and Rec on activities, volunteers and Story Time
• Have two Neighborhood Liaison event (spring and fall). It will increase
communications and community outreach
• Continue to update the Neighborhood Liaison Packet (Subcommittee:
Larrabee, Kohn and Johnson)
• A potential collaboration with the Air National Guard on September 26, at
Curtiss Field for the monument placements celebration.
o City Staff Nandkumar will reach out to the Air National Guard on the
collaboration and if the event is still taking place. We are hoping to
debut the Fall Harvest event and add food trucks on the street
o Staff will research surrounding cities regarding adult beverages at
events.
• Subcommittee (Larrabee and Stegman) will review and update the New
Resident Packet
o Commissioners request staff to notify them when the city receives a
new resident list. It will increase neighborhood connection and
outreach.
o Staff will reach out to apartment owners on a renter’s list in order to
connect with them
• City Staff, Council Liaison and Commissioner May will draft a hate speech
resolution that reflects the community, values, and what Falcon Heights
stands for
o Staff will reach out to Minnesota Department of Human Rights,
ACLU, Council Member Miazga, Aklilu Dunlap (Attorney) for
assistance
• CEC subcommittees: Liaison, Communications, Events and Business
o Liaison
work with liaisons, improve the program, recruit and have a
liaison be a commissioner to help bridge the gap
o Communications:
Connect with the Neighborhood Liaisons, Block
Captains/Neighborhood Watch, CERTs to identify their goals.
This will help CEC and how to group them in certain
categories
• Create a terminology for all groups
• Add everyone into the same email list
o Events: create future events for the city
How to increase participations?
Promote events
Create community involvement events, and city will showcase
it in the website and social media
o Business: Develop business engagement plan
3. Website
a. Community Events Page
• A page for residents to share their events and would like to invite
Falcon Heights residents or their block
• Calendar is not open to business owners
• Residents have the option to share the address on the website or can
advise individuals to call City Hall for the information
• Commissioner Johnson and staff will work on the site page
b. Neighborhood Liaison Page
• Commissioner Johnson and staff will update will work on the site
page
