Item Snowstravaganza
Description
The Community Engagement and Parks & Recreation Commissions agreed to
meet once more prior to the Snowstravaganza event. This time will be used to
address any last-minute details and solidify that all commission members are
on the same page.

Snow Sculpture Contest
Work in teams or individually to build a snow sculpture at Community Park. Sculptures can
range from a traditional snowman to animals, flowers, and more! We encourage you to be as
creative as possible.
You are allowed to bring props from home and the City will provide some bottles of snow paint
as well. This is not a timed event. Snowstravaganza ends at 3 pm and at that point in time we
will go around and take a picture of each sculpture.
The following Monday, a picture of each sculpture will be posted on the City website for a city-
wide vote. Winners will be announced the in the following weeks along with the winners of the
dog photo contest (likely on Feb. 25th).
Snowball Toss
The goal of this game is to toss as many snow balls into a bucket as fast as you can for two
minutes. Participants are expected to make their own snowballs in order to play. You can
compete individually or as a team.
There will be two sizes of buckets provided; the larger bucket is worth one point and the
smaller buckets are worth five points. Volunteers who are coordinating this activity will keep
track of time and score.
Backyard Curling
Try your hand at not-really-curling and see if your family can get our “stone” to the end of the
ice rink. Work together with the help of our household curling items to see if you can gently
coax your stone to the opposite side of the rink. Frozen gallon jugs, shop brooms and a cone
will be provided. Challenge your neighbors to a match and create your own scoring. A summary
of the traditional curling rules is provided below for context. Participants are free to choose
how they would like to play.
Summary of Traditional Curling Rules:
A curling match consists of 10 ends, which are equivalent to innings in baseball. Typically, there
are four players on each team and the teams alternate throwing the stone. Each of the four
players throw two stones per end and then the other team goes.
There are two houses (look like bullseyes) located on opposite ends of the ice. The main goal in
curling is to score more stones closer to the center of the house than your opponent’s nearest
stone. Only one team can score per end and each stone is worth one point, so the maximum
points a team can score is 8 in one round of play.
The team with the most points after 10 ends wins the match.
** Please note that the City is unable to paint the ice rink. We will be using a cone instead and
encourage participants to determine points based off how close each stone is to the cone. **

Item Officer Elections
Description
The Commission must nominate and elect officers for 2022. Descriptions of
these positions are as follows:
Chairperson
Main contact between the commission and staff, conducts the meeting by
opens/closes, calls for votes, and helps set the agenda for upcoming meetings.
Vice chairperson
Fills duties in the Chair’s absence and encouraged to work as a team and
communicate needs with staff.
Secretary
Responsible for taking meeting minutes and sends to staff for review and
approval at next meeting.
