HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCMin_70Apr9MEETING OF APRIL 9, 1970 1 2973 The regular meeting of April 9, 1970 was called to order at 7:05 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor Warkentien, Clerk Taylor, Councilmen Black, Ecklund and Stone. Also present was Treasurer Olsen. Engineer Lemberg arrived at 7:30 and Attorney Seed at 7:10 P.M. Minutes: Ecklund moved that the minutes of the March 26, 1970 meeting be approved as corrected. Black seconded and the motion carried.. League of Mrs. Faye Olson, President, Mrs. Betty Jones, Past Presi- Women Voters : dent, and Ms. Mary Waleto, member, of the League of Women Voters were present at the meeting to obtain a photograph of Mayor Warkentien and his cooperation in promoting the petition drive to gain representation in the II. S. Con- gress for District of Columbia. Miss Bitty Jones, daugh- ter of Betty was the photographer. Certified Public Carl Pearson, Certified Public Accountant, reported that Accountant's Report: because of illness on the staff of his office they cannot finish auditing the Village books at this time. Investment The possibility of more advantageous imresting of Village Procedures: funds was discussed by the Council. Treasurer Olsen will continue to investigate the possibility of changing the Village investment procedures. Letter to Dr. Taylor read a letter draft~ci by the Village Engineer to Robert Thatcher: be written to Dr. Robert Thatcher, 1859 North Snelling Avenue, regarding no~i.ous weeds and thistles on his p~op- erty. (Letter sent 4-13-70) Sidewalk Complaint Taylor read a letter written by Aaron Norberg, 1li71 West Letter: Iowa Avenue, regarding sidewalk damage. The Village Engin- eer was instructed to cheek the damage and report to the Council. Water Rate Engineer reported thatthe Ramsey County League of MYni- Survey: cipalities select four consulting firms to make proposals for a water rate survey. Dwight Reichow - Engineer Lemberg reported that he had checked the side~wa].k Sidewalk Cannplaint : coanplaint of Dwight Reichow, 1.?a97 West Iowa Avenue, and found that one section of sidewalk needed repairing or rsplaceenent. Hollywood Court Engineer Lemberg reported that Hollywood Court would need Street Repairs: street repairs this spring. Street Sweeping: Engineer Lemberg recommended that the Village streets be swept shortly after May 1, 1970. Stone moved that the Village Engineer be authorized to arrange for street sweeping. Taylor seconded and the motion carried. 2974 Arona Avenue Engineer Lemberg discussed the use of state aid funds for Repair: reconstx~zction of Arona Avenue from California to Hoyt. Stone moved that the Engineer be authorized. to make a feasibility study of prospects to improve Arona Avenue Prom California to Hoyt including curb and gutters, storm sewers and widening. Black seconded and the motion carried. Tractor: Engineer Leanberg was asked to draw up recoanm~-endations for a lawn tractor for the Village maintenance department. Application for Ecklund moved that the application of Raymond F. Brown, Volunteer Fireman: 1$44 Tatum Street, for the position of volunteer fireman for the village, be approved, sub3ect to his passing a physical and the usual six months probationary period. Black seconded and the motion carried. Sign Repair Ecklund stated that there were traffic control signs in Needed: the Village needing repair or replacement. Fire Reports: Ecklund read Fire Reports Nos. 7, 8. Sheriff's Report: Ecklund read the Sheriff's Report for the month of March. Fire School Ecklund moved that the Council authorize five volunteer Registration: firemen from the Village to attend the M3.xmesota State Fire School on April 27, 28, 29, 30, at a cost not to exceed $300. Three men will. attend for four days and two men for one day. Black seconded and the motion carried. Court Costs The Council discussed court costs being added to fines Added to Fines: paid to the Justice of the Peace instead of the Village paying the costs as is presently done. This will be dis- cussed further by the Council and Justices of the Peace. Stm~ner Recreation Mayor Warkentien checked the report sent into the office Report: by Gary Wieks, Summer Recreation Director of 1969, and advised the clerk to send copies to all Recreation Commit- tee Members. Discontinuance of the program for 1970 was discussed by the Council due to lack of interest and par- ticipation in the past few years. This will be studied at a later date.
