Home My WebLink AboutCCMin_70May142979 MEETING OF MAY Ili, 1970 r 1 1 The regular meeting of May 1lt, 1970 was called to order at 7:00 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor Warkentien, Clerk Taylor, Councilmen Black, Ecklund and Stone. Also present were Treasurer Olsen, Engineer Lemberg. Attorney Seed arrived at 7:1~0 P.M. Minutes: Ecklund moved that the minutes of the April. 23, 1970 meet- ing be approved as corrected. Black seconded and the motion carried. Summer Recreation Miss Donna Selina, recreation student atter~lding the Univer- Program - sity of Minnesota, appeared at the meeting to discuss the Donna Saline summer recreation program, and the salaries to be paid which Appointed will be as follows: Director $1,000, one assistant at Ulrector: $750, and two instructors at $600 each. Warkentien moved that the Council e~tploy as recreation director, Miss Doantta Saline, starting June 15, including eight weeks of five days each week. The morning program starting at 9:30 A.M. until 12:00 noon at the Idaho-Snell- ing and University Grove playgrounds. The afternoon program starting at 12:30 P.M. until l~:00 P.M. at the West Falcon Woods and Falcon Heights School playgrounds, with the under- standing that the director will attend a meeting on June 25, 1970 to present a report on the progress of the program. The director shall be given the power to engage one assist- ant and two instructors, one male and one female preferred. All the personnel wi11 be on~a full time basis with $1100 of the operational budget to be appropriated. Stone seconded and the motion carried. (Black suggested that a recreation cooromittee beheld with Donna Selina being present.) (Letter was sent to each member of the recreation commi.ttee.) Variance Request - Black moved that the variance application submitted by Richard Magnuswl Ri.chaxd Magnuson, 1810 Holton Street, be granted, as recom- 1810 Holton Street: mended by the Falcon Heights Planning Com~tission, to con- stzuct sparking area of bricks set in sand along side of his present driveway, and sub3ect to approval of the appro- priate County Agency. Eeklund seconded and the motion carried. Variance Request - Eugene Gasparro, 2l~32 Churchill and John Labalestra, 1899 Lido Corporation West Larpeateur Avenue, appeared at the Council meeting in 1611 W. Larpenteur: behalf of the Lido Cafe, 1611 West Larpenteur Avenue, to discuss moving the present sign on the east end of the build- ing out into a parking area and also to install a flashing arrow on the sign. A variance application was submitted. They also requested financial assistance front the Village, if possible, to so arrange or reconstruct the present park- ing lot to stop through traffic from their parking lot to the shopping center nearby. The Council recotm:tatded Lido's engage a lawyer to take care of the park3.ng situation. Falcon Heights - A group of men from Falcon Heights and Lauderdale appeared Lauderdale at the meeting to present their proposed plans to secure a Ice Arena: four seasons ice areas for the Falcon Heights-Lauderdale area. 1 1 2980 Future plans include forming anon-profit corporation to develop financing and to hire professional management for the ice facility if such is constructed. These pans are dependent upon locating a sv~table site for construction. Variance Request - Mr. Arthur Jorgenson, Arden Hills Investment Company, ap- Conditional Use - peared at the meeting to submit applications for variance 1830 W. Larpenteur: and conditional use to construct an 18 unit apaxt~ment building at 1830 West Larpenteur Avenue. Black moved that the applications for conditional use and variance in connection with the construction plans be re- ferred for recommendation to the planning commission. Also it was moved that the Village Engineer review the plans and provide a written resort for use of the planning commlf.ssion and the Council. Taylor seconded and the motion carried. Tractor -Mower: Ecklund moved that the Council purchase an ~~International Cub Cadet~~ 1!t h.p. tractor with mower, sweeper and trailer for use by the maintenance department, from International Harvester Company, for the quoted price of $1,82.00. Stone seconded and the motion carried. Fire Reports: Ecklund read Fire Reports Nos. 10, 11, 12, 13. Tennis Courts: Warkentien and Black attended a recent meet3.ng with several school board members and Lloyd Nielsen, Superintendent, to discuss a proposed contract for construction of tennis courts on the Falcon Heights Elementary School grounds. It was decided that the items we discussed would be green fur- ther consideration at the next meeting of the school board. Gary Wicks Black moved that the amouxrt of $15 be authorized for Gary Expenses: Wicks, 1969 recreation director, to cover expenses in at- tending arecreation meeting on May 7, 1970. Ecklund se- conded the motion. Ayes Warkentien, Ecklund, Black. Nays: Stone and Taylor.
