Motion by Commission Member Locke to
approve the minutes; 4-0
E. AGENDA:
1. Ice Cream Social Feedback
Commission Ebbesen stated there was not a ton on how people want to be
communicated with more about the community feedback. The City did pretty well
on ice cream. The ice cream ran out 20 minutes before the end of the event. City staff
and Council Members should have an open house this fall. In addition, the booths
went well.
Commission Member Locke stated that a larger tent and more tables are needed next
year.
Mayor Gustafson stated the City should double up on the orange ice cream for next
year.
Commission Member Ebbesen stated banners need to go up sooner (two weeks
earlier).
Commission Member Locke asked whether we got a count on how many people
attended.
Commission Member Ebbesen said we really could not get a good count.
Commission Member Cooley-Kistler stated that the dog parade was fun and went
well.
Commission Member Ebbesen stated the City needs better communication on
advertising the event.
Council Member Locke asked did the dance parents feel like they could see their
kids perform.
Commission Member Ebbesen said yes, they could see their kids perform. For next
year the City needs to get communication out earlier, get a bigger tent, and create a
schedule for the event.
Mayor Gustafson stated that a truck for public works would be a good event for the
community.
Commission Member Ebbesen stated the event might need to change venues next
year to the city hall. Also, reach out to the organizations from the resource fair to get
feedback from them.
Council Member Locke stated the City should look into getting food trucks for
future ice cream social events.
Mayor Gustafson stated the City could find an item or two and subsidize it for the
residents, so they don’t have to spend $20.
Council Member Locke stated we could have a BBQ contest next year.
Commission Member Ebbesen stated it could be similar to what the Fire Department
did with the chili cook-off.
Council Member Locke stated that he thinks there is an opportunity for the City to
create a sense of community with residents.
Council Member Lindstrom stated the City could bring chairs for people to use.
2. Human Rights Day
Human Rights Day is December is 10th
Council Member Locke stated the City could partner with Falcon Families for equity and
justice.
Commission Ebbesen stated the City should have Just Deeds at the City Hall meet and
greet in the fall. Human Rights Day can have a panel on mainly one subject.
