1. Larpenteur-Snelling Corridor Study Kickoff – WSB
Staff Liaison Lynch introduced Kim Lindquist and Jim Gromberg from WSB. Kim
Lindquist will be the Project Manager for the Larpenteur-Snelling Corridor Study, and
Jim Gromberg works on Economic Development. Lindquist described the process for the
Study, including holding a second meeting with the Planning Commission before
moving forward with a public meeting for input, community survey, and a social
pinpoint map utilizing GIS. She stated there would be around five meetings total,
including focus groups. She asked the Planning Commission to discuss what is wanted
from the project, goals for the community, and opportunities and impediments. The
Commission discussed the need for housing, what type of housing, and the opportunity
for “horizontal multiuse redevelopment.” The Commission also discussed the potential
for the UMN golf course to be redeveloped in the future, based on the University’s
comprehensive plan which now lists the golf course as an opportunity zone.
