C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Chair Mercer-Taylor made a motion to approve the agenda. Agenda was approved by
consent.
D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. September 11, 2023
2. September 18, 2023
Chair Mercer-Taylor made a motion to approve the minutes from September 11, 2023 and
September 18, 2023. Minutes were approved by consent.
E. NEW BUSINESS
1. Purple Air – Air Quality Monitors
Commissioners discussed the potential for purchasing Purple Air Quality monitors and the
placement of these throughout the City. Several locations for placement included City Hall,
the new Community Park building after its construction, Falcon Heights Elementary School,
around the Larpenteur and Snelling intersection and/or Curtiss Field, and potentially
somewhere in the Northome Neighborhood. Commissioner Pellegrini made a motion to
purchase five Purple Air Quality Monitors. A vote was taken and all were in favor. Staff
Liaison Lynch stated she would look into how to move forward with this, whether that be an
approval by Administrator Linehan or going through City Council.
2. Partners in Energy – Partners Discussion
Commissioners discussed the Partners in Energy program and the kickoff that was held on
September 18, 2023. There is a need to come up with a list of potential team members for the
Energy Action Team as well as materials for outreach. Staff Liaison Lynch offered to draft
materials and bring them back to the November Environment Commission meeting for
review. A list of partners that were thought of included Falcon Heights Church, Falcon
Heights Elementary School, UMN students, businesses in the City, The Good Acre, Gibbs
Farm, Bell Museum, the State Fair, Coffman Residents, CAP Region Watershed, the Lions
Club, Rotary Club, Warner’s Stellian, multifamily property managers, the Community
Engagement Commission, the Somali-American community within the City, and other
contacts that Commissioners may know.
F. Information and Announcements
1. Staff Liaison Report – Staff Liaison Lynch went over recent updates in the City
including the Gibbs Farm Redevelopment, a potential development in the parking lot
next to Amber Union, an update on the City Hall solar panels, and the upcoming topic
for the Nature Newsflash article in the City newsletter.
2. Council Liaison Report – None.
