A. CALL TO ORDER: 7:04PM B. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: 1. June 21, 2021 Motion to approve the minutes by Andrea LaDouceur; Approved, 5-0. E. DISCUSSION: 1. Debrief on meeting with Just Deeds • Ashleigh and Randy met with Jared Shepherd from Just Deeds, a local organization that was started by a group of attorneys who were seeking to work with homeowners looking to acknowledge racial covenants on their property deeds • Randy: as a City, we can become part of the Just Deeds program, residents would apply to have assistance through a pro bono attorney that would work with them. • Mapping Prejudice is working to complete the mapping of deeds in Ramsey County and expect to be completed by the end of 2021 • Joining Just Deeds could come with a recommendation from CEC to Council to sign on to the organization. • There is no financial commitment required to join, only staff time. • This topic could go before Council at the September City Council Workshop. There was consensus from the CEC to recommend this to Council. Randy would share the discussion and recommendation with the rest of Council. 2. Human Rights Day • The event could be at Falcon Heights Elementary or the Falcon Heights Church • A turnout of 30 people would be considered a good turnout given the time of year • Ninenorth could broadcast a presentation by one of the organizations so that a virtual attendance option is possible • Could get signs out in yards advance • Andrea can reach out to Principal Behnke about dates that are available • Bole Ethiopian restaurant would be an idea for food at the event • Perhaps the International Institute could be tapped to participate- either a winter clothing drop box or presenting on how to get involved with Afghan refugees that will be arriving. • Human Rights Day Content will focus on Just Deeds/Mapping Prejudice (presentation), possibly the International Institute on needs related to Afghan refugees. • December 6 or 7 at the church or school; Andrea will check with the school • Julie will contact Just Deeds or Mapping Prejudice about a presentation and an individual who could speak about the Rondo neighborhood destruction. • Karen will contact International Institute about involvement in the event.
