HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 26-13 Authorizing the City to Join the Nonpartisan Coalition of Cities for Safe and Stable CommunitiesCITY OF'FALCON HEIGHTS COUNCIL RESOLUTION February 11,2026 No.26-13 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS TO JOIN THE NONPARTISAN COALITION OF CITIES FOR SAFE AND STABLE COMMUNITIES WHEREAS, the City of Falcon Heights is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community and to stewarding City resources in a manner that supports public safety, operational stability, and community trust; and WHEREAS, cities across Minnesota are experiencing shared operational, public safety, and community impacts associated with recent federal immigration enforcement actions, including increased strain on local resources and erosion of trust between residents and local government; and WHEREAS, the Cities for Safe and Stable Communities coalition has been formed as a nonpartisan, city-led group of Minnesota local governments to coordinate information sharing, reduce duplication, and provide a collective forum for addressing these shared local impacts, while retaining full local control for participating cities; and WHEREAS, participation in the coalition does not require lobbying, litigation, or public advocacy, and each city retains discretion regarding its level of engagement, public communications, and information sharing; and WHEREAS, the City Council has previously affirmed community values related to immigration enforcement, clarified the City's limited authority and responsibilities, and emphasized the importance of responsible stewardship of City resources and the maintenance of community trust; and WHEREAS, joining the coalition is consistent with the City's interest in staying informed, coordinating with peer cities where appropriate, and contributing to a constructive, nonpartisan local government response focused on safety, stability, and respect for constitutional protections NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota: l. The City Council authorizes the City of Falcon Heights to join the nonpartisan Coalition of Cities for Safe and Stable Communities. 2. Participation in the coalition shall not alter the City's existing policies, ordinances, or practices related to immigration enforcement, public safety, or the use of City resources, and shall not obligate the City to engage in lobbying, litigation, or public advocacy. 72 3. The City Administrator, or designee, is authorized to serve as the City's primary point of contact with the coalition and to participate in coalition activities consistent with Council direction and City policy. 4. The City Administrator is authorized to expend up to their spending authority of $5,000 in2026 for the City's participation in the coalition. Moved by: \\ie-tqe-Approved Mayor C.
