Meeting called to order at 7:.45 pm., and minutes of May 23, 1950, meeting
approved as read.
Bus hearing Attorney Frank. J. Haauaond, representing the Village at
report. the Falcon Heights bus service hearing, held at 1:30 pm.,
Tuesday, June 13, 1950, before the State Railroad and
Nfarehouae Commission, reported that the hearing was well
attended, that the Street Railway reported losing about
X15,000 operating the route during 1949. Also that Mr.
Q.H. MacDonald, of the North Star Bus Company, whose
Company served the Village prior to granting of the bus
permit to the Street Railway Company, testified that if
the present service were discontinued, his company was
interested in serving the area on a limited basis for
about s 20-cent fare. Hammond said the Street F.ailway
proposed that their Traffic Manager get together with Ed
Jones, St Peul utility expert, and someone from the Railroad
and Warehouse Commission, to prepare a proposed schedule of
operation, which if accepted by those interested at the
hearing, the Street Railway would be willing to try it out
on a six month basis, with the understanding that they would
bring the matter up before the Commission at the end of that
time. Will propose resuming achedulo on a reduced basis to
include rush periods. Attorney Hammond recommended that a
member of the council be present ttt the proposed conference.

Communications: Latter from William L. Showell, district oenaus supervisor, as to
follow-up of persons in the Pillage mused by the censu8.
Letter oY June 5 from the County Sarveyor as to work on streets
by County foroes, April 26 to May 25, amounting to X537.19, leaving
an available balance in our 1950 allotment oP X1,251.39.
Letter from the Commissioner of Highways on laws governing use of
trunk highways Por local aele~rations.
The Mayor read a letter reoeived from the Director of Civil Defense
as to a meeting of the Metropolitan area to be held. at 2 pm., June
15. H® and the Fire Ghief will attend.
Letter from Attorney Graham, reporting that Nieman in failing to
make personal oontact with Mr. Magee about arranging a meeting,
had written him a letter with no reply to date.
Jurgenson On recommendation of Attorney Graham, Shavor moved that the
shack matter be referred to Building Inspector Rsichow with request
that he discuss with Jurgenson needed changes in the building
to oomply with the building node. Seconded by Rekstad and
carried by unanimous vote.
Juhl road Henry reported that after inapeoting the Juhl road on Asbury
between Ruggles and Roselawn with Street Commissioner Seaborn,
that they agreed it should not be taken over by the Pillage
in its present condition.
Pure Oil Co Stei~rart reported reoeiving a phone call Prom the Pure Oil
to grade and Company, advising they xill grade and aarface the rear half
surface lot. of their lot at 1528 Larpenteur for parking by their own
oustomers.
Directory A proposed Pillage directory was checked and agreed on. Henry
will have it mimeographed.
Graham on - Attorney Graham stated there were no developments to report on
Fry street, Fry street. Commenting on his attendance of the League of
Willmar Convention, ldinnesota )dunicipalities Convention, at Willmar, the previous
University. week, Graham said he was particularly interested in a general
discussion of licensing praotices. In connection with property
the Pillage has been trying to lease Prom the University, Graham
said he was informed that Mr. Bradford, Attorney ~ r the University,
was having an appraisal made.
Landscaping :Van Hoven said he has figures available on this, one problem
Village Hall being the landscaping and the other the parking lot. Will
do Fire Station. submit a plan on paper at a later meeting.
Eureka fire hose John Rysgaard, Chairman, Fire Protection committee, reported that
aocepted and the Eureka Southland Piro hose had been reoeived and that it
certified bid conformed with speoifioations. Thereupon, Shavor moved adoption
aheok returned. of the following resolution:
Resolution - RESOLVED, that the certified oheok #8072, of the U.S. Rubber Company,
dated Maroh 23, 1950, for $12?.OO, submitted with their bid on the
fire hose, be returned to the U.S. Rubber Company. Rekstad aeoonded
and resolution adopted unanimously.

E.Y. Moore Building Inspector Reiohow and Mr. end Mrs. E.Y. Poore,
acreea house 1780 N. Snelling, appeared before the council in conneotion
special permit. with requesting a sp ecial permit for construction of a
portable screen house. Stated it would be used in conneotion
with an outside ~i~r laQ~ and would bs put up on rear of the
lot which they own;d wFi~c~2'ad~oins on the east the lot on
which their dwelling is located. Rekstad moved sp ecial permit
be granted, Shavor seconded, and carried unanimously.
'JV.P. Mock Reichow also reported he had request from W.P. Mock, 1397 Larpenteur,
screen house for a apeaial permit for a soreen house in the rear of the lot
special permit. which he owns ad~soent to 1397 Larpenteur. Reldstad moved granting
of special permit. Lindig seconded and motion carried unanimously.
St Ma~-ys Street ~1. L. Hermes inquired as to status of proposed work on St Marys
Street. Discussion followed as to proposed development on St Marys
and Fry streets. Henry will contact the county surveyor and get
a revised estimate on cost oP gre~ding and moving dirt onto Pillage
Hall and Fire Station grounds.
Fire Underwriters Rysgaard read a letter from W.C. Freitag, of the Fire Underwriters
set July 1, 1950 Inspection Bureau, requesting assurance by July 1, 1950, that .the
for meeting Underwriters' requirements as listed will be complied with,
requirements. including addition of one paid fireman, the 1,500-watts= light
plant, and deluge set_or portable turret noLale. The Fire Chief
stated that a 1,000-watt plant would not handle smoke eatinguiaher,
and after demonstration, the Fire Protection committee agreed that
a 1,500-watt plant was needed. Rysgaard said the Fire Department
would sea about making a deluge set to meat requirements. It
was decided to consider other listed items at a later meeting.
Seaborn appointed Due to Harry Anderson's illness, Shavor moved appointment o£
temporarily on Stan Seaborn temporarily to membership on the Fire Protection

Sending resuscitator Referring to the swimming season, Fire Chief Swanson
when Dolled for. mentioned the possibility of one man on duty receiving a call
from a nearby community for the resusoitator. Asked if the
council would authorise sending the resuscitator to the assns
of the aocident in such oases. Henry moved that the paid man
on duty take the resusoitator to the assns and that a volunteer
replace the paid man at the station. Lindig seconded and
motion carried.
To answer alarms, Swanson also asked what the council would authorise with
Fair grounds de reference to answering alarms to the Fair grounds and Farm
Farm Sohool. School. He was directed to answer ouch Dells if received.

To aid independent Swanson spike about the possibility of getting emergency
Fire Departments calls Prom independent Fire departments, such as Lake
Johanna and Spring Lake Park, with whom we cannot enter
into agreements. He was instructed to render assistance
in such emergencies.

Farm Campus In oonnection with County deputy sheriffs making arrests Por
parking Farm Campus parking violations, inquiry was made why these
violations. oases could not be handled by Village Justioes of the Peaoe.
Stewart moved that the question be referred to Public Safety
Committee Chairman Arndt. Henry seconded and carried.
Bond for Secretary With reference to the Board of Trustees of the Firemen's
and Treasurer of Relief Association meeting, July 6, the matter of bonding
Firemen's Relief the treasurer and aeoretary was considered. Henry moved
Asa'n. that bond be in the amount of X1,000. Lindig aeoonded and
motion carried.
Stools for On recommendation of Fi re Chief Swanson as to stools needed
sleepers. for sleepers, Rekstad moved that the Fire Department be
authorized to buy two stools. Stewart seconded and motion
carried.
Fire truoks Swanson said that due to the drain in the Fire Station floor
not level the truoks stood with one side lower than the other. He
was instruoted to fix•up a temporary support to keep the
truoks level until something permanent could be worked out.
Resignation of The clerk read a letter from Osmon R. Springsted, offering
Justice of the his resignation as Justice of the Peaoo. The letter was
Peaoe Springsted. referred to Attorney Graham who will check the statute as
to procedure.
Posting places Stewart reported that the National Tea Company will permit
posting by the Village on the inside of their store window.
The need of a better posting place at Cleveland and
Larpenteur was also discussed. Ryagaard will handle.
Streets ordered Henry reporting for Seaborn, said a 10 ft. culvert would be
oiled. Culverts. installed on each side of the Village Hall driveway with
for Village Hall fill and blacktop. Also that oiling of all streets ktst has
driveway. been ordered.

Mayor
