Taxi Cab Arthur M. Olson, 411Q Banfil Street, St Paul, appeared beBore the
Servioe council in conneotion with his application to provide a taxi cab
service within the Pillage area bordered by Rowelawn, Hemline and
Fairview. After discussion, the matter, including a proposed
ordinance, was referred to Attorney Graham.
Licensing A proposed licensing ordinance was discussed, especially with
Ordinance reference to bowling alleys, root beer stands, sale of Christmas
proposed. trees, dry cleaning establishments, pop corn wagons and carnivals.
The clerk will try to secure copies of licensing ordinances cover-
ing the above from nearby villages.
Fire Fire equipment items requested by the Fire Chief under date of
Equipment January 3, 1951, was discussed. On motion by Stewart, seconded by
Henry, the Fire Chief was authorized to purchase the following
items on the list - 1 Chemox gas mask, 2 hand saws, 2 blanket rolls,
1 battering ram, 2 20-ft. log chains, 1 sledge hammer, 2 fire blankets,
1 first aid kit, 3 24" squeegees, 400 ft. 3~4" rope, 2 short-handled
shovels, 4 sprinkler shut-offs, 2 mops. Possibility of seouring a
filing cabinet for the Fire Department was also discussed.

Reksta~d moved payment of bills, seconded by Lindig, and carried.
In connection with Mr. Julys request that building inspector be
authorized to issue building permits on Simpson Avenue, between
Ruggles and Roselawn, it was agreed that if the developer did not
put in road before requests for building permits are received,
that a performance bond should be required. Attorney Graham will
check with Crampton to see if the Village has an easement on east
half of Simpson.

prevention code was discussed. Attorney Graham pointed out that
under the present ordinance the Fire Chief has the ri ght to
notify the owner of any building in the Village to correct any
fire hazard the Chief may find.
Also discussed was schedule and allowance for Fire Chief jwanson
and Assistant Chief Imhoff, commencing March 15, 1951, because
oP the third paid fireman vacancy.
Letter from Eckman submitting salary schedule of paid firemen
in nearby communities for consider atiin in connection with
the possible adjustment of Fire Department salaries.
Also letter by Eclonan regarding Bir. R.J. Mitchell, of St Paul,
applicant proposed by Fire Chief Swanson for the Assistant Fire
Chief vacancy.
Letter from County Surveyor as to street work performed during
period Jan. 26 to Feb. 25, 1951, amounting to $352.85 and leaving
an available balance oP $1,909.36 in our 1951 allotment fund.
University Letter from Yar3orie M. Hamlin, Administrative assistant of Schools,
Barracks as to number of children attending school from the University
school Barracks (East Grove) and Thatcher Hall and approximate cost per
attendance child.
Church group Mayor Henry reported receiving request Prom Mrs. Husband, represent-
requeats ing a group from the North Como Presbyterian Church, about using
hall. the Village Hall, March 26, for a business and social meeting.
Rekstad moved that the request be allowed and that a charge of
$10.00 be made for their use of the hall with the understanding
they sweep the place out following their meeting. Seconded by
Lindig and motion carried unanimously.

Sweitaer Letter oP March 9, 1951, from J. S. Sweitzer & Son, Inc., as to
contraot payment of X500.00 which was held pending completion of work on
balanoe the Fire Station and Yillage Hall. Rekstad will check and report
at the next meeting.
Landseapting Van Hoven reported on discussing landseaptng of the Yillage Hall
grounds with Mr. Juhl, and their deoision to postpone further
action in the matter until weather conditions improve.
Re audit Van Hoven also inquired as to the Council's wishes with respect
of Yillage to having an audit of Village accounts by the Public Examiner or
accounts. a private.acoounting firm.

1951 approved as read.
Extra time, Compensation for Fire Chief and 1st assistant Fi ro Chief
Fire Chief for overtime worked, March 16 to Apr. 1, 1951, because of
de Aast. third paid man vacancy, was considered. Shavor moved that
each be paid for such overtime at a rate based on their
reapeative regular salaries. Stewart seconded and carried •
unanimously.
