On motion by Stewart, seconded by Lindig, it was voted unanimously to approve the request. Fire Equipment As to fire equipm~t iteabs requested by the Fire Chief in his letter of March 11, 1952, to the Fire Department Committee which recommended purchase. The clerk was directed to inform the Fire Department committee chairman as to some of the items not being provided for in the 1952 budget. Bills: On motion by Lindig, seconded by Rekstad, the following bills were ordered paid: Earl Smith, services and mileage, policing to 4-17-52, $43.97 James Waller, " " " " " 4-19-52, $36.98 BbeClain & Hedman, 2 doz blank certificates, $1.20 Nicols, Dean & Gregg, 100 sweeping compound, $2.30 Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., Ne 5200, 4-10-52, $11.20 Village Letter from Mr. Chenoworth, of the County Engineer's office, entrance as to proposed Village entrance signs, was read and discussed. signs 274 Scarlet Health Officer Lindig reported placing of a scarlet fever placard fever on the residence of Roger Groth, 1502 Nest California, as of April 21, 1952. Holton Joseph Sanderson, 1753 Holton, appeared bef ore the council in Avenue connection with a petition signed by himself and other home owners on Holton, requesting the improvement of street conditions on Holton. Mr. Sanderson was advised that in going ahead with this work, speoial consider ation must be given to drainage con- ditions and that the work will be done as soon as weather permits. Dry Cleaners Messrs. R. Stenberg and H.G. Grant, represents*ing home owners on Crawford, reported that they wish to try and correot ob3eetionable Bond itions .due to operation of the dry cleaners through clarification of the ordinance esp ecially with reference to noise and fumes. Possible erection of a stack to carry off the flames at a suitable height, also a method for burning the fumes, were disoussed, together with a proposal for limiting hou rs of oper ation. It was agreed to have Attorney Graham draft a proposed ordinance amendment including such provisions, and when ready for oonsideration that the Mayor call a special meeting with the understanding that all concerned would be asked to attend, including representatives of the Dry Cleaners. Public Public Safety Committee Chairman Arndt being present, request Safety was made on him to warn those responsible for dumping in the alley back of the Dry Cleaners. Chairman Arndt then reviewed briefly reports that had been filed by Village police, also total fines assessed to date for traffic and load limit violations, and the cost of police operations. Amendment The proposed amendment was discussed with reference to notice Fire Dept. to be posted in public buildings on reporting of fire. Action ordinance on the amendment was postponed until the Fire Chief could prepare a notice for consideration and. approval of the Fire Department committee, the clerk to check into the cost of printing the notice. Fire As pre-arranged, the Fire Department committee and Fire Chief Department Swanson were present for a discussion of Fire Department matters. The Mayor stated that in calling at the Fire Station shortly after the siren sounded the evening of ~pr.19,1952~hat he found no one the re and no record of the location of the fire on the bl aekboard where it is supposed to be written for the information of the volunteers. Fire Chief Swanson stated this was definitely a slip-up on the part of the paid fireman on duty, but as far as no one being at the station at the time, that this will happen when only one man is on duty. His suggested solution was to have two men on duty, or that the fire rig be held at the station until one or more volunteers arrive. Possibility of having an extension phone at Hermes or at the Farmers Union gtrage was considered. After discussion, Stewart moved, seconded by Henry, that the matter be referred to the Fire Department committee for study and recommendation as to a proper solution. Fire Dept. Chairman Hustrulid reported on fire equipment items requested Committee by the Fire Chief, pointing out that some of the items were needed as replacements, but that he could not determine definitely the need for the electric drill. Fire Chief's Hustrulid again called attention of the council to condition living of the Fire Chief's living quarters and strongly recommended quarters that necessary repairs and decorating be authori zed. Fire hose ~Iith respect to 500 Peet of hose requested, Hustrulid said from inquiries he had made, it was considered sound Fire Depart- ment practice to acquire a certain quantity of needed fire hose each year, possibly 250 feet in our case, so that hose deterior~t#;on would not be so great. _- Investment Treasurer Van Hoven reported on infb anation he had developed of Village thru the First National Bank of St Paul on U.S. government bonds funds. arxi securities. Compared with certificates of deposit offered by the Falcon Heights State Bank, yield and safety considered, he said it appears that the latter as an investment for ®illage funds should be given preference. Dale-Hoyt Trustee Lindig reported on discussion he had with Mr. Barnes, bus of the Twin City Lines, as to requested rerouting of the Dale- Hoyt bus to run on Hemline.
