4. The Clark shall transmit a certified duplicate of this
assessment to the county auditor on or after April 1, 1953,
to be extended on the proper tax lists of the county, and
such assessments shall be collected and paid over in the same
manner as other municipal taxes.

Meeting resumed Tn eonneotion with Legislative Information Service letter,
9:20.P.it. dated January 23, 1953, Prom the League of Minnesota
Municipalities, relating to municipal liquor store bills,
mostly anti, Stewart moved that said letter be referred to
Anti-~dunicipal our legislative committee ari th the Council's recommendation
Store Bills that Representati ve Claude Allen and Senator Elmer Ande rson
be requested to oppose the anti municipal liquor store bills.
Seconded by Lindig and motion carried by a unanimous vote.
Adjournment: On motion, the meeting was then adjourned at 10:05 P.M.

The Mayor declared the meeting open at 7:45 P.M.
Minutest oP regular meeting, January 21, 1953, of regular meeting,
January 2?, 1953, and of Publie Hearing on proposed assessments for grading and
surfacing seven alleys, January 27, 1953, were heard and approved as read.
Paid Fire Chief Swanson introduced B. J. Slams, 1849 Western Avenue North,
Firemen St Paul, and S.P. Schultz, 372 Rice Street, St Paul, to the Council,
appointed. stating he had appointed them as paid fY remen to fill vacancies
created by resignations of Firemen genneth J. Barthel and Robert D.
Locke. Conditions were discussed relating to salaries, termination
of employment upon two weeks notice, the probationary period for

(cont'd). quired of each appointee. Lindig then moved that the monthly
wage of each of the two paid firemen be fixed at ;250.00,
sub~eet to the established probationary period. Seconded by
Salary Stewart and carriedz unanimously.
Probationary After discussion, Stewart moved that the probationary period
period Por Messrs. Schultz and Slams as paid firemen be fixed at
30 days, at the end of which timm they shall each be paid the
going wage of $265.00 per month, provided the Fire Chief
recommends retaining each beyond the probationary period.
Shavor seconded and motion carried unanimously.

1953 allotment, was submitted to and approved by the council.
To requisition Shavor moved that all village purchases be requisitioned thru
purchases the Village Cle rk, excepting items of expense needed for the
immediate operation of any department. Lindig seconded and
motion carried unanimously.
Stepnitz Latter of February 6, 1953 Prom the W.F. Stepnitz Agency to
Building Building Inspector Reichow, relating to the roof installed on
permit the building at 1528 to 1552 1~est Larpenteur and referring to
the Stepnitz application for a permit, was considered. Henry
moved, seconded by Lindig, that the building inspector be
authorized to issue said permit as of February 5, 1953. Motion
carried unanimously.

Standby Letter of January 30, 1953, from Attorney Graham relative to
Fire standby fire contracts was read. Henry then moved that standby
Contracts fire contracts with the Village of Roseville and the Village
of Lauderdale be referred to the Fire Department committee
for their recommendation. Lindig seconded and motion carried
unanimously.
Bill authorizing Attorney Graham's latter was read in this connection. Shavor
Counties to do then moved that theCounoil go on reoord as favoring passage
road work of the bill and that the matter be referred to our Legislative
committee for proper action. Seconded by Henry and carried
unanimously.
Blanket Trustee Lodahl reported on his examination of the proposed
Municipal blanket municipal liability policy prepared by the Indemnity
Liability Insurance Company of North America. After discussion, Shavor
Insurance moved that Blanket Liability policy No. 9 LB 15001, of the
Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, be accepted and
that the Mutual Service Casualty Insurance Company be informed
. that their policy No. CL 3-913928 is cancelled. Seconded by
Lindig and so ordered.
Load limits Letter of February 2, 1953, from Harry 5. Bronson, County
Engineer, relating to seasonal load restri coons imposed on
state, county and village streets was read. Lindig moved
that the Street Commissioner be authorized to have theCounty
post three-ton load limit signs on Village streets at the same
time as such posting is done on County roads. Shavor seconded
and motion carried unanimously.
