Expenses & As to the Fire Chief and two delegates being reimbursed for
wages lost expenses and. wages lost in attending conventions, state
attending meetings and fire school; it was agreed that the council
conventions, would consider expense allowance, also payment for time lost
etc. up to a maximum of $15.00 per day.
Salaries to As to increasing salaries of paid firemen in line xith firemen's
paid men salary schedules in communities such as St Louis Park, Richfield,
Columbia Heights, South St Paul and nest St Paul, In this
connection, the 195t~ budget report for the Fire Department, as
submitted by Fire Department Committee Chairman Hustrulid, was
read from the minutes of August 25, 1953• This indicated that
a study of conditions in the communities mentioned with respect
to height of buildings, hazards, etc., should be undertaken
before decision is reached on the salary question, The Volunteers
xere informed that such study is under way, the Clerk reporting
on comparative figures secured in this connection as to the
population and total assessed valuation of each community. It
xas agreed to advise the Volunteers when study is completed and
to ask their representative, John Rysgaard, to attend the
council meeting at xhich this matter and the paid firemen~s
salaries xill be considered.
Volunteers' As to increasing compensation of volunteer firemen from X1.00
compensation to l~2.00 per hour for drill time, and from $2.00 to $3.00 per
hour for fire time; there xas no objection and the Volunteers
were informed the nex compensation rates as requested would
become effective with the 19511 budget on the firat of next
year.
Ad3ournment: There being no other matters to be heard, the meeting adjourned
at 10:00 P. M.

budget.
