Meeting called to order at 7:1~0 P.t,~., with the following council members present:

Minutes of July 13, 1955, were heard and approved as read.
Regn. #59 supplies for Clerk's office, was approved on motion by Hustrulid,
seconded. by Cartwright.
Reqn. #60 2 batteries for engine No. 2 and other supplies for Fire Department,
_ approved on motion by Shavor, seconded by Cartwright.

Street On street bill for work performed by the County, June 1 to
bill June 25, 1955, amounting to b,U36.92; the Clerk reported he
had discussed payment of this bill with the County Engineer's
office on July 25th and that the County was agreeable to
accepting payments on the same basis as was arran~?ed for
in paying off the May street bill.

Associated. Investors - Several west Idaho residents and their attorney,
John Yyallace, of St Paul, appeared. before the council
Citizens protest to protest the grading and blacktopping of the

Fred Rahn, Chairman of the Citizens group, asked in connection

traffic and if this would come out on Arona.

this tract would reduce ground seepage and force

Village Engineer Stenzinger moved that the Clerk address a let+er to

Sanitary Hustrulid reported that our engineers are now working on the
Sewer problem of a possible entrance into the sewage system of
St Paul.
Culverts Nick Christensen reported on the installation of culverts on
Tatum street, stating that three were second hand. He also
reported. that the used culvert on the Village Hall grounds
would be serviceable for a private driveway if the damaged
end of the culvert were cut off. It was agreed to retain the
used culvert for that gurpose.
Pedestrian The Mayor reported the injury of a person on our pedestrian
cross walk crosswalk recently and raised the question of more policing
injury in that area. Treasurer Olsen, who said he had just returned
from an auto trip thru the east, reported that the school police
idea was used effectively on pedestrian crosswalks in many
communities. He said high school students were employed,
that they stood on the curb off the street and crosswalk, using
long poles with suitable signs attached to warn approaching
motorists. It was agreed to refer the matter to the Public
Safety Commission for study and report.
Police It was reported that since James ~~aller was unable to serve
as a part time police officer, the Public Safety Commission
had recommended the appointment of Kenneth Schmidt. Cartwright
moved that Kenneth Schmidt be appointed as third part-time
police officer effective as of July 20, 1955. Seconded by
Shavor and motion carried unanimously.
Fireman Question was ra~;sed as to Fireman Stanley P. Schultz being
Schultz entitled to a salary of X285.00 per month on the basis that
salary, he had not passed advanced first aid course as required under
X280 per mo. Section 7, Ordinance No. 31. Fire Chief Swanson was called
to the council room and his letter of June 5, relative to
Ordinance requirements passed by Schultz was read, stating
that Schultz was the holder of current "Standard" Red Cross
card. Asked if he~is qualified to give instruction in Advanced
First Aid, Fire Chief Swanson said he has not kept up his card.
In referring to the minutes of June 8, 1955, it was pointed out
that increasing Fireman Schultze salary to 9285.00 per month was
in error, and that the increase should have been to X280.00 per
month according to the ordinance, Cartwright moved that the
council do nothing about the two checks received by Fireman Schultz
on the X285 basis so as to eliminate the need for changing book
records and salary deductions already made, and that Fireman
Schultz be paid on the basis of 93280 per mopth, commencing July
_ 16, 1955. Seconded by Hustrulid and motion carried unanimously.
Aug. 10th In view of the fact that our attorney would be out of town on
meeting bugust 10, 1955, Stewart moved that regular meeting of the council
postponed. scheduled for August 10, be postponed until Wednesday, August 17,
1955, beginning at 7;30 P.M. Seconded by Stenzinger and. motion

Fire Truck The Clerk referred to the councils approval, on August 11,
repairs 195t~ of the Park Machine Company, of St Paul, as an
established. source for all work required on either of our
two fire trucks, and recommended renewal°of the arrangement
as called for. Approval was moved by Hustrulid, seconded
by Shavor, and motion carried unanimously.
Street After discussion, Cartwright moved that the Clerk write the
program Village Engineer, requesting that he furnish us with a
suggested road maintenance program for Village streets, and
that such program be available to us before our budget meeting
in early September. Seconded. by Stewart and motion carried
unanimously.
