Sullivan, 195? Jefferson, St Paul, xere heard regarding plans for establishing a motel on the premises at 163l~ and 1642 North Snelling and 15b1 West Idaho. Mr. Bauman, owner of the property, said the buildings would be unchanged excepting for the installation of a motel sign, and that the area in the rear of the buildings is adequate for customer parking. He said it is proposed to start motel operations next spring. After discussion, IItecht moved that the matter be referred to our Planning Commission for study and report. Seconded by Cartwright and motion carried unanimously. Xmas tree Application to sell Christmas trees on the-lot adjoining 1702 N. license Snelling, together xith check for X10.00 covering license fee, xas received from Mr.Joseph E. Spargur, 318 E. Robie Street, St Paul. IItecht moved that the application be approved sbb~ect to report from the Village attorney that taxes on the property are paid up. Cartwright seconded and motion carried unanimously. Juvenile Letter of November 13 xas read from the City and County Detention sad Detention Workhouse Facility Commission, inviting Village representatives and Home members of our police force to attend ground-breaking ceremonies for the nex Juvenile Detention Home, on Monday, November 19, 195b, at 2:30 P.M., near Dale and Larpenteur. Utecht moved that the invitation be referred to our Public Safety committee. Seconded by Cartwright and so ordered. Nilsen seconded and motion carried unanimously. Grude~a As agreed at our September 26 meeting, Building. Contractor, Irvin Grudem, Bldg. 635 N. Prior, St Paul, again appeared before the council to report on 1790 W. the building matter at 1790 Y~. Larpenteur. Mr. Gruden said theJ had Larpenteur tried advertising and putting up signs to try and interest some firm in the building but without success. Mr. Grudem said they xere nox concerned with a nvaher of problems with respect to the .unfinished building because of winter coming on and possible damage from freezing, and requested permission to back-fill and protect the foundation. Utecht moved that permission be given Mr. Grudem to do anything necessary to protest the building from exposure during the winter months, such work to be done sub3ect to the building inspector's approval, and that lbs. Grudem be regnestedto report back to the council on January 23, 1957. Seconded by Nilsen and motion carried unanimously. Bal. due Statement.covering balance of X155.25 due the Leslie H. Johnson-Heating Leslie H. Co., for remodeling the Village Hall heating system, was discussed. Johnson It was agreed to hold the bill over until checking has been completed. Heating Co. ~~ ~ Credit of X85 due the General Fund for Bell and Light station Light installation, of which X60.00 had been applied to the Fire Maintenance sta. credit ~~ phone bill, was discussed. It was agreed that transfer of X60.00 to General from the Fire Maintenance fund to the General Fund should be arranged. Fund. The Clerk reported that according to Don Arndt, the Fire Department Fire Equipt. equipment belonging to the Village, such as rain coat, boots and turned in .helmet, had been recovered from Hal Newell as per the council's by Hat request of November ?. A detailed list of the returned equipment Newell rill be listed in Officer Kenneth Schmidt's report. In accord with the council's request in the minutes of October 2lt, 1956, a proposal in the form of a letter dated; November 1lt, 1956, from Briggs, Gilbert, 1[orton, Kyle and Idacartney, of St Paul, was received and read, relative to the handling of details of the proposed sanitary sewer bond. issue for the Village. ~t . ~. i 1 Permanent The proposed setting up of a system of permanent registration of Registration voters was discussed. The matter was referred to our attorney for checking and report. Fire After discussion xith Fire Chief Grumke as to fire inspections made inspections by our paid firemen, Stewart moved that the Fire Chief be asked to submit a letter with a prepared schedule and his recommendation as to how inspections should be handled, showing a division of inspection areas. It was also stated, Grnmke said, that we should answer no calls in Lauderdale unless we were sere they had a fire. The Fire Chief asked that we clarify with Lauderdale dust what calls are to be answered .and who in Lauderdale will have authority to make the calls. Street lights Trustee Nilsen xas asked to-check with the Northern States Power Company to see chat their recommendations are on street lighting at Ruggles and Snell~.ng as requested by Mrs. William Molin, 1880 Snelling Drive, and in Falcon Woods Addition. Tree Trimming After discussion, Cartwright moved that we authorized Trustee Nilsen to arrange Por the experimental trimming oP boulevard trees on both sides of the street in one block in the Northome area, and after the work is completed to report back to the council. Stewart seconded and motion carried unanimously. Gurfew Sample curfew ordinances, including Roseville'a, were studied. ordinance Trustee Cartwright and Attorney Graham were asked to prepare proposed a proposed curfew ordinance based on revisions which were agreed to. Property behiad~ Mayor Utecht reported on contacting Mr. Stepnit$ and informing business block him that he was extremely disappointed in the handling oP the along Arona parking area on Arona behind the business block -that only , portions beneficial to the owners were taken care of. Said Stepnit$ informed him moat now check everything with Mr. Cohen, but Pelt action on other requirements would be taken this xeek. Curbs or posts, Building Inspector Christensen reported that care were being on Larpenteur parked on the sidewalk on the Larpenteur side of the aen- shopping center shopping center, and that plans called for installation of curbs or posts. After discussion, Utecht mw ed that the Cleric be instructed to write the owners of the property, requir- ing them to install concrete curbs or posts on the property line on Larpenteur avenue, also on Snelling Drive, from the Cities Service Station south to the alley, and from the driveway south to the alley behind the store.
