HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCRes_90-40 No R-90-40 CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS C O U N C I L R E S O L U T I O N Date October 10, 1990 ----------- A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 20-26, 1990 AS RED RIBBON WEEK AND ENCOURAGING CITIZENS TO PARTICIPATE IN DRUG PREVENTION EDUCATION ACTIVITIES WHEREAS, Alcohol and other drug abuse in this nation has reached epidemic stages, and the 15-24 year old age group is dying at a faster rate than any other age group; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention education efforts by community members be launched to reduce the demand for drugs; and WHEREAS, this Annual Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated throughout America during National "Red Ribbon Week," October 20- 26, 1990; and WHEREAS, President George Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush are the National Honorary Chairpersons, and Governor Rudy Perpich and Senator Rudy Boschwitz are the State Honorary Chairpersons to provide this community focus on a Drug Free America; and WHEREAS, business, government, law enforcement, schools, religious institutions, service organizations, youth, physicians, senior citizens, military, sports teams, and individuals will demonstrate their commitment to drug-free, healthy lifestyles by displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign; and WHEREAS, the Mayor's Commission Against Drugs and the Roseville Area Parents Communication Network are sponsoring a Red Ribbon Campaign offering citizens the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to drug free lifestyles; and WHEREAS, THE COMMUNITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA is committed to ensure the success of the RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Falcon Heights does hereby support October 20-26, 1990, as RED RIBBON WEEK and encourages its citizens to participate in drug prevention education activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to creating safer, more caring, drug- free neighborhoods.
