HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCRes_88-25No. R-88-25 CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS • C O U N C I L R E S O L U T I O N Date October 26, 1988 RESOLUTION OPPOSING STATE SALES AND MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE TAX ON PURCHASES MADE BY CITIES AND OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS WHEREAS, extending the six percent sales tax to city purchases of vehicles has restricted budgets for some local governments; and WHEREAS, extending the sales tax to other city purchases would severely restrict budgets of all local governments, costing cities -- according to a League of Minnesota Cities survey -- $32 million per year; and WHEREAS, forcing local governments to pay state sales tax amounts to one level of government taxing another; and • WHEREAS, this increased sales tax necessitates increased local property taxes; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Ramsey County League of Local Governments that the members of the Minnesota Legislature are requested to reject state legislation forcing local governments to pay the six percent sales and motor vehicle excise tax on their purchases. • Moved by Pat Bush YEAS Nays BALDWIN CIERNIA CHENOWETH WALLIN BUSH ~~ Approved by ~GSa-i ~~~~ Mayor October 26, 1988 Date 5 in Favor 0 Against Attested b City Administrator October 26, 1988 Date Adopted by Council October 26, 1988
