Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the
. City Council of Falcon Heights, Minnesota was held on the 6th day of July,
1982.
The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Council-
members Eggert, Larson, Ciernia and Chestovich, and the following were
absent: None.
Councilmember Ciernia introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION 82-29
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SCHOOL ?BOARD OF
DISTRICT 623 RESPECT THE HISTORICAL, CURRENT
AND FUTURE ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL OPEN SPACE BY
THE COMMUNITY AS A RECREATIONAL RESOURCE
WHEREAS, District-wide attendance reductions and pupil redisbrib-
utions have created surplus elementary school space and,
WHEREAS, financial contingencies have necessitated more efficient
use of space and,
WHEREAS, after due deliberation, the District 623 Board chose to
close the Falcon Heights Elementary School and,
• WHEREAS, for some 30 years the open space surrounding the school
has been the focal point for community recreation, especially by children
and,
WHEREAS, the children of the community continue to use the open
space and,
WHEREAS, the community has consistently and faithfully supported
District initiative and programs,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of Falcon
Heights, Minnesota that in effecting any long term disposition of the
Falcon Heights School or the surrounding open space, the School Board of
District 623 respect the historical, current and future access to the
school open space by the community as a recreational resource.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if the sale or ]_ease is the long-
term decision, that the City of Falcon Heights be allowed to negotiate
for all or some of the land.
The motion for the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
Coucilmember Larson and upon a vote being taken thereon the following
voted in favor there: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers Eggert, Larson,
Ciernia and Chestovich, and the following voted against the same. None.
