HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCRes_83-07CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota was held on-the 9th day of March, 1983. The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers Chestovch, Eggert, Larson and Ciernia, and the following were absent: None. Councilmember Ciernia introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION 83-7 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO ENACT LEGISLATION ELIMINATING UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION TO VOLUNTEER FIRE AND RESCUE MEMBERS WHEREAS, Falcon Heights depends on the services of part-time Fire and Rescue volunteers, and WHEREAS, the members of the volunteer Fire and Rescue Department are c~m'p~nsatedfor-their services, and WHEREAS, the State Department of Economic Security honors unemployment compensation claims of individuals who terminate their participation in the Department, and • WHEREAS, this practice complies with neither the spirit or intent of employee rights, and WHEREAS, this practice adds an unnecessary burden to Cities, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that Legislation be enacted that eliminates or greatly reduces the liability of a City for unemployment compensation claims by volunteer fire and rescue members. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Eggert, and upon a vote being taken the follow- ing voted in favor thereofs Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers Chestovch, Eggert, Larson and .Ciernia,. and the following voted against the same:- None.
