Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Special Meeting of the City
• Council of the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota was held on the 16th day of
July, 1980.
The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers
Steele, Brown, Eggert and Larson and the following were absent: None. Mayor
Warkentien introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption.
RESOLUTION 80-18
A RESOLUTION PROPOSING AN 8% INCREASE OVER
THE BASE AUTHORIZED BY PRIOR LAW AND AN
ADDITIONAL 10% ONE TIME INCREASE AUTHORIZED
BY LAWS, 1980, CHAPTER 607, ARTICLE II,
SECTION 21
WHEREAS the City of Falcon Heights is in need of additional tax revenue
for police and fire protection, street maintenance, maintenance of the park
and other properties of the City, and other governmental purposes; and
WHEREAS the present levy limit base payable in 1980 was $400,853.00 based
on a population of 5,770- persons; and
WHEREAS the City of Falcon Heights would be able to increase its levy limit
by 8 per cent of this levy limit base for taxes levied in 1980 and payable in
1981; and
• WHEREAS the Minnesota Legislature has enacted a statute authorizing a one-
time levy adjustment in the levy limit base of an additional 10 per cent and
this law is known as Laws, 1980 Chapter 607, Article II, Section 21, and
WHEREAS it appears to be in the best interests of the City to raise addi-
tional revenues by making use of the statutory authority to raise these addi-
tional funds on a one-time adjustment to the levy limit base.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Falcon
Heights as follows:
The City Council proposes to raise the levy limit base of
the City of Falcon Heights from its present base of $400,853.00.
The increased proposed is that of $72,153.00, which consists
of an 8% per cent increase over the base authorized by prior
law and an additional one-time increase of 10% authorized by
Laws 1980, Chapter 607, Article II, Section 21. The proposed
increase would be for taxes levied in 1980, payable in 1981.
The total levy limit base after the proposed increase would
by $473,006.00.
This resolution shall be published for four (4) successive weeks in the
official legal newspaper of Falcon Heights. The hearing on the proposed in-
crease shall occur on Wednesday August 13, 1980, commencing at 8:00 o'clock
P.M. at a regular meeting of the City Council, City of Falcon Heights, at the
• City Hall, 1644 West Larpenteur, Falcon Heights, Minnesota. Interested persons
are invited to attend and participate.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded
by Councilmember Steele and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted
in favor thereof: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers Steele, Brown, Eggert and
Larson, and the following voted against same: None.
WHEREUPON, the resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
