HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCRes_77-08CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council of the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, was held on the 28th day of February, 1977. • The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, Ecklund, Steele and Labalestra and the following members were absent: None. Councilman Steele introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption. RESOLUTION 77-8 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SENATE FILE 103 INTRODUCED BY SENATOR ROBERT M. BENEDICT OF DISTRICT 38, PUTT- ING A MORATORIUM ON THE TAXING OF HOME IMPROVEMENTS WHEN THE SQUARE FOOTAGE IS NOT INCREASED. 1r~iEREAS, the State of Minnesota is currently involved in a severe energy shortage; and V~iEREAS, a critical need for moderate income housing is projected for at least the next two decades; and WHEREAS, it is far less costly to encourage citizens to upgrade existing housing that it is for government to attempt to renovate neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, it is essential that the State stop discouraging people from im- proving their own property. THER~'ORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Falcon Heights does hereby support the concept of Senate File 103 that would put a moratorium on the tax- • ing of home improvements as long as the square footage living area was not in- creased and the property is five or more years old. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded by Councilman Black and upon a vote being taken the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, Ecklund, Steele and Labalestra and the following voted against the same: None.
