VILLAGE OF FALCON HEIGHTS
A RESOLUTION TO OFFER POLICE, FIRE AND RESCUE
SERVICES TO THE VILLAGE OF LAUDERDALE, MINNESOTA.
WHEREAS, the Village of Falcon Heights, Minnesota,
presently contracts with Ramsey County, Minnesota, for
police protection but provides fire and rescue services
for its citizens;
. WHEREAS, the Village of Lauderdale, Minnesota, pre-
sently has its own police force and contracts with the
City of Minneapolis for fire services, but there are no
rescue services available for the citizens of Lauderdale;
WHEREAS, the police force of the Village of Lauderdale
does not presently provide 2~--hour protection for its
citizens;
WHEREAS, the police force of the Village of Lauderdale
will be terminated on or about August 1, 1973;
WHEREAS, the Village of Lauderdale and the Village of
Falcon Heights are contiguous villages with a relatively
small geographical area;
WHEREAS, it appears reasonable that police, fire and
rescue services should be available to the citizens of both

• villages on a shared basis;
WHEREAS, if a shared basis can be arranged for police
protection, the area to be patrolled by the police cars
is such that the Village of Lauderdale would be assured of
having a patrol car in their Village for a period of time
proportionate to the total cost of the services provided;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council
for the Village of Falcon Heights as follows:
The Village of Falcon Heights proposes to enter into a
Joint Powers Agreement, or some other acceptable agreement
to effect the following:
1. Fire and rescue services for both villages would
be performed by the Volunteer Fire Department of the Village
• of Falcon Heights.
2. Police protection for both villages would be
afforded by Ramsey County, with each village paying a cost
proportional to the area and population to be served.
3. The total cost to the Village of Lauderdale for
police, fire and rescue services would be $25,000 for the
calendar year commencing August 1, 1973. This amount would
be adjusted in future years, depending upon changes in
population, cost of the services, and the performance record.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution
was made by Member Ecklund, seconded by Councilman Black,
and upon a vote being taken on, the following voted in favor
• of: all; the following voted against; none.

• Councilman Stone was absent.
WHEREFORE, said resolution was declared duly passed
and adopted.
