HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCRes_99-21• Resolution 99-21 City of Falcon Heights RESOLUTION 99-21 Elimination of the Fire Marshal Position in the 2000 Budget WHEREAS, the city created the fire marshal position in 1986; and WHEREAS, during the budget process the city council determined that funds for the fire marshal position were required for other city services; and WHEREAS, the city administrator can assume the responsibilities related to emergency management, civil defense and other necessary public safety activities; and WHEREAS, the BLS ambulance service is being terminated in 1999; and WHEREAS, the services of fire prevention and fire inspections are available through a contract for service for approximately $7,500 a year; and WHEREAS, the 1999 salary and benefits for the fire marshal position are • $42,895; and WHEREAS, eliminating the position and contracting for the fire prevention and inspection services will save the city a minimum of $35,395; and WHEREAS, the estimated savings of $35,395 is needed to support other city services; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of Falcon Heights that the fire marshal position be eliminated effective at the end of the day on December 31, 1999 and THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of Falcon Heights that if a vacancy occurs in the position of fire marshal prior to December 31,1999 that the vacancy not be filled for the remainder of 1999.
