PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
• May 6, 1985
Called to order by Floyd Bedbury.
Members present: Floyd Bedbury, Tom Montain, The Sinclairs, Keith Moderson,
Carol Parks, Paul l~elson, Tom Ammann, Connie Lasser, Laura Luttrell
Guest: Ardis Hutchins
Keith Moderson gave a brief update on progress and preparation for Bike Day
scheduled for May 11, 1985.
(1) Ardis Hutchins has volunteered to do a user survey for the Park and
Recreation Commission to identify the needs and desires of those who use
the parks .
(2) Floyd will investigate the issue involving the variance at the Grove to see
what the prospects are for generating additional park and recreation financing.
(3) Floyd mentioned the need to review expenditures for p~.yground equipment
at the Hole-Grove. This item may be put on hold pending the outcome of the
user survey.
(l~) The issue regarding maintenance of the park running course was
discussed. Floyd will discuss repair of this facility with Rick Cox.
• Sh~.xley will be asked to publicize the need for volunteers to work on
such maintenance projects.
(5) Tom Ammann raised the issue of tennis court lighting and has suggested
a master timer be installed to limit use of lighting to 11:00 P.M. Vince,
in Maintenance, will be asked to investigate options for a special master
timing device.
(6) Carol Parks will develop a checklist for repair and regular maintenance
needs for park prop arty and equipment. List will be utilized by maintenance
people for regular once per year maintenance.
(7) Lori Luttrell suggested that the trap door at the loft still poses a
hazard and needs repair. This is the second request and this item needs
attention.
(8) Ardis Hutchins has suggested that a master plan be developed for
the green space at the Grove. S'he recommends that the University of
Minnesota architectural students be given an opportunity to develop
plans as a student project.
(9) Floyd requested that the Falconeers be allowed to use City Ha11 chairs
for outdoor picnics and social functions for more comfortable seating.

(10) Connie Lasser suggested that Pauline Staples (Maplewood Park and
Recreation) be allowed to consult at no charge 'for regarding improved
and additional programs at Falcon Heights. The Commissions seems
agreeable and Carol Parks will work with the Consultant on recommendations.
(11) Floyd will make a second request for budget information as it
relates to Park and Recreation allocations. We need an update.
(12) Tom Ammann requested that the University of Minnesota be contacted
regarding lease arrangements for land utilised by Park and Recreation.
Floyd will investigate options for a favorable, continuing agreement.
(13) Connie Lasser has asked to review job descriptions for park and
recreation employees. Laura will follow thru when descriptions are
complete.
(1.1~) Tom Ammann recommends a list of 'ion-call~- volunteers be developed for
assisting with Park and Recreation activities.
(15) Keith Moderson recommends that a special newsletter be routed to
inform all residents of complete summer activities schedule.
Next meeting scheduled for June 3.

May 6, 1985
1. Keith -Report on Bide Rodeo - everything is go.
2. Lori -Report on summer programs - Everything is set except
needs extra worked - date for first aid training is set.
3. Repairs to park rope,gives off slivers, must be worn out.
Slivers from wood or parts of running course. What can be
done.
1t. Sinclairs will talk to the Falconeers about using their money
to help supply live music for the Ice Cream social.
5. In the future, anyone who would like to be on the agenda must
make the request in advance and in writing and also state their
business and be specific.
6. Yellow sheet - this trap door must be fixed before someone gets
• hurt.
NOTE: Shirts for Park and Recreation people at Bike Registration.
